Men's Basketball Welcomes No. 4 Tufts to Staake Gymnasium on Friday Night

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 16-28 all-time against Tufts in a series that dates all the way back to the 1934-35 campaign. 
•    The Beavers have won five of the last seven matchups between teams over the last decade although the Jumbos snapped a four-game skid back in 2022.
•    Babson and Tufts met six times between 2014-19 but have met just once over the last six years.
•    In addition to meeting 44 times over the last 50 years, the Beavers faced the Jumbos' freshman squad twice and their junior varsity team four times between 1934-50. 

LAST MEETING 
•    Khai Champion scored 17 points and Tyler Aronson added 15 points and eight rebounds to pace four players in double figures as Tufts defeated Babson, 82-73, in the opening round of the New England Big 4 Challenge on November 19, 2022, in Medford, Mass. 
•    Dylan Thoerner and Casey McClaren each scored 10 points for the Jumbos, who led by as many as 18 in the first half and shot 67.9 percent in the opening period and 54.5 percent for the game. 
•    Nate Amado '25 poured in 31 points on 12-of-19 shooting and senior Timmy O'Toole added 11 points and four rebounds to lead the Beavers, who got within five three times over the final nine minutes despite shooting just 39.7 percent in the loss.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (2-0) led for all but 63 seconds and withstood a late rally for an 82-78 win at Albertus Magnus on Tuesday night in New Haven, Conn. 
•    Junior Marc Begin II led five players in double figures with 14 points, first-year Robby Fiore scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and fellow rookie Thomas Ferdinando knocked down four three-pointers on the way to scoring 12 points for the Beavers, who led by as many as 13 early in the second half. 
•    O'Toole (17.0 pts, 10.5 reb) is shooting 69.6 percent from the floor to start the year, Ferdinando (13.0 pts, 2.5 reb) has knocked down eight three-pointers in two starts, Fiore (12.0 pts, 3.0 reb) is 9-of-12 shooting off the bench and sophomore Timmy Mulvey is averaging 10.0 points and 3.5 assists. 
•    The Green and White is shooting 45.7 percent from the floor and averaging 1.14 points per possession over its first two contests. 

SCOUTING THE JUMBOS
•    No. 4 Tufts (0-0) returns all five starters and 13 players in all from a team that went 22-6 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last winter. 
•    James Morakis (17.9 pts, 3.6 reb, 2.7 ast) and Scott Gyimesi (15.3 pts, 9.9 reb, 3.1 ast) were both named to the D3hoops.com Preseason All-America team, while Dylan Reilly (9.7 pts, 2.9 reb) knocked down a team-high 72 three-pointers in 2024-25. 
•    Joshua Bernstein (9.4 pts, 6.9 reb, 2.1 blk) shot 66.9 percent from the floor, while Jon Medley averaged 7.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and a team-high 3.9 assists. 
•    The Jumbos shot 46.9 percent as a team and ranked 17th in rebounding margin (+8.5) and 25th in field goal percentage defense (39.4) last season. 

O'TOOLE COLLECTS CONFERENCE HONOR
•    After setting career highs in both points and rebounds in last Saturday's season opener, O'Toole was tabbed as the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    In addition to his 26 points and 17 boards in the OT victory over Brandeis, O'Toole had three steals and two blocked shots, the last of which came midway through overtime after the Beavers had taken the lead for good at 79-78. 

BRENNAN CLOSES IN ON 500 WINS
•    Now in his 31st season as the head coach at Babson, Stephen Brennan picked up win No. 499 on Tuesday night and needs just one more to reach 500 for his career entering Friday's contest. 
•    The 2017 NABC Division III Coach of the Year, Brennan ranks first among NEWMAC coaches and ninth among active Division III coaches in wins. 
•    He has guided the Beavers to eight NCAA Tournament appearances over the last 12 years, which includes capturing the program's first national championship in 2017 after reaching the national semifinals in 2015. 

CLEANING THE GLASS
•    The Beavers have outrebounded their first two opponents 95-54 and boast a rebounding margin of 27.5 in wins over Brandeis and Albertus Magnus. 
•    Babson has grabbed 45.2 percent of its missed shots leading to 29 second-chance points to go along with defensive rebounding percentage of .816.

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH
•    The Green and White has gone 11-of-12 at the free throw line in the final two minutes of its first two games. 
•    Ferdinando and Fiore both went 2-of-2 at the charity stripe over the final 28 seconds of last Saturday's victory over Brandeis. 
•    Begin II made four straight free throws to close out Tuesday's victory after senior Tyler Lauder knocked down a pair of free throws and Mulvey went 1-of-2 at the line over the final 93 seconds. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Lauder scored nine points in Tuesday's win at Albertus Magnus and is averaging 6.5 points and team highs of 11.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists in two starts. 
•    The backcourt trio of Mulvey, Ferdinando and Fiore has each scored in double figures in back-to-back games to start the year while combining to shoot 50 percent (16-of-32) from beyond the arc. 
•    Sophomore Gavin Aydelotte scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting at Albertus Magnus and is averaging 10.0 points off the bench over the first two games. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers have won three straight games and are 4-2 against NESCAC foes going back to the 2022-23 campaign.
•    Babson has won 13 of its last 16 games inside of Staake Gymnasium going back to February 3, 2024. 
•    The Green and White is 9-1 going back to the start of last year when scoring at least 80 points. 
•    The Beavers went 3-2 against nationally-ranked opponents last winter.
