BRUNSWICK, Maine—First-year
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) became the program's first player to finish a 36-hole tournament under par as the Babson College women's golf team placed sixth at the Polar Bear Shootout on Sunday at Brunswick Golf Club.
The Beavers followed up Saturday's score of 301 by posting a team score of 309 in the final round to conclude the weekend with a 36-hole total of 26-over 610. No. 7 Williams ran away from the field finishing at 22-under 562, which was 31 shots clear of second-place Wesleyan (593).
After opening with a 2-under 71 on Saturday, Bansal carded a 1-over 74 to finish the weekend in ninth place at 1-under 145. She made three birdies and four bogeys in the final round, which includes back-to-back birdies on two of her last three holes to get back under par for the tournament.
Sophomore
Alice Zhu (Orlando, Fla.) matched Bansal with a final round 74 that featured three birdies and four bogeys. She was 1-under over her first 12 holes on Sunday and finished in a tie for 27th place at 9-over.
Fellow sophomore
Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) followed up an opening round 75 by carding a 6-over 79 on Sunday. Despite a slow start to the final round, she played her final 14 holes in 2-over and finished in a tie for 22nd position at 8-over.
Coming off a 74 on Saturday, sophomore
Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) made two birdies and carded a 9-over 82 in the final round to finish in a tie for 31st place at 10-over for the tournament. Junior
Laura Lu (Chengdu, China) birdied her final hole of the round on Sunday to close with an 86.
Babson will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule at the inaugural Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) Championship on October 27-28 at Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford, Pa.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• While Bansal is the only Babson player to complete a 36-hole tournament under par, Zhu played the first 36 holes of last April's 54-hole Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate at 1-under par.
• The Beavers' 36-hole score of 610 was four strokes behind last year's total of 606 when the team came in third overall.
• Bansal tied for fourth in par-5 scoring at 3-under and tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at 1-under.
• Amaya owns a 75.50 scoring average in four career rounds at Brunswick GC.
