DiGiovanni and Bonazzoli Sweep NEWMAC Field Hockey Athlete of the Week Honors

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—For the second week in a row, Babson College swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey honors, as senior Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) and first-year Anna Bonazzoli (Clinton, Mass.) were named Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively, on Monday afternoon.

A senior forward, DiGiovanni scored four goals, including a pair of game winners, and surpassed 100 points for her career as No. 4 Babson extended its winning streak to 10 games with a pair of home victories. The senior forward broke a scoreless deadlock 1:05 into the fourth quarter to lift the Beavers to a 1-0 triumph over No. 8 Bowdoin on Tuesday and then recorded her second career hat trick with three goals over the first 17 minutes of Saturday's 6-0 win against Clark.

DiGiovanni is second in the NEWMAC with 15 goals this season, ranks third with 30 points and shares the conference lead with teammate Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.) with four game-winning goals. DiGiovanni became the 14th player in program history to reach 100 career points (49g, 5a, 103 pts) with her 13th career multi-goal game and second career hat trick.

A first-year back, Bonazzoli led a Babson defense that allowed just six total shots and three on goal in a pair of shutout victories last week. The first-year center back helped the fourth-ranked Beavers limit No. 8 Bowdoin to season lows in shots (2) and shots on goal (1) in Tuesday's 1-0 win, and then allowed just two shots over the first three quarters of Saturday's 6-0 triumph over Clark.

A starter in all 15 games for the Beavers this fall, Bonazzoli anchors a defense that has posted five straight shutouts and leads the NEWMAC with a 1.04 team goals against average, a mark that ranks 16th in Division III. Bonazzoli claimed the NEWMAC weekly honor for the second time this season, previously earning the award back on September 8.

No. 4 Babson (14-1, 6-0 NEWMAC) puts its 10-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday with a conference road game at Springfield at 6:30 p.m.
