Cristiani Becomes Women's Tennis' First ITA Cup Singles Champion with Straight-Set Victory

ROME, Ga.—Babson College senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) made history on Sunday becoming the program's first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup singles champion with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rebacca Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Cristiani jumped out to a 5-0 lead and broke Kong's serve four times in the opening set and then pulled away late in the second to close out the match. She held serve to go in front 4-3 and then recorded her sixth service break of the match for a 5-3 advantage before closing out the title on serve.

Playing in her first ITA Cup singles final after reaching the semifinals in 2023, Cristiani was dominant over four days in Rome. She recorded four straight-set victories and did not lose more than three games in any of her eight sets while improving to 16-0 on the season.

A two-time NCAA champion in doubles and an the only eight-time All-American in Babson history, Cristiani ends the fall as the program's all-time leader with 99 doubles victories and second in both singles (96) and combined wins (195). She is just one victory shy of matching Olivia Soffer's '25 all-time record of 196 and also needs just three singles triumphs to match Soffer's school record of 99.

Babson will begin the spring portion of its schedule in March.
