ROME, Ga.—Senior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and first-year
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) opened the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup with victories in both singles and doubles on Thursday at the Rome Tennis Center.
Cristiani, who is the top seed in the 16-player singles draw, was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Victoria Wang of NYU on Thursday morning before pairing with Sikharulidze for a straight-set triumph in doubles. The Beavers' top pairing defeated Nana Vang and Sascha Wells of Whitman (Wash.) College 6-1, 6-3, to advance to Friday's quarterfinals.
With Thursday's doubles victory, Cristiani recorded her 98th career win to pass
Olivia Soffer '25 for first place in program history. Cristiani and Soffer won back-to-back NCAA Doubles championships in 2024 and 2025.
Cristiani, who advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw and finals of the doubles bracket at the ITA Cup in 2023, will face Jane Ling Chun Wong of Carnegie Mellon University in Friday's singles quarterfinals at 9 a.m. Cristiani and Sikharulidze will then face the second-seeded duo of Lindsay Eisenman and Rebecca Kong of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in doubles on Friday at 1:30 p.m.
