Men's Golf Ties for 11th Place at the Tartan Invitational

Fowler Posts Third Top-20 Finish as Beavers Conclude Fall Schedule

LIGONIER, Pa.—Senior Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) closed with a 5-over 77 on the way to posting his third top-20 finish of the season as the Babson College men's golf team tied for 11th place at the Tartan Invitational on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Beavers recorded a final round score of 313 at Laurel Valley Golf Club to conclude the 54-hole event with a score of 50-over 914. No. 6 Huntingdon (886) finished three shots ahead of No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan (889) and No. 23 Rochester (889), while No. 4 Carnegie Mellon (890) and No. 1 Emory (899) rounded out the top five. 

Fowler finished the day with four birdies, five bogeys and a pair of double bogeys and posted a 54-hole total of 8-over 224 that helped him tie for 17th place. Sophomore Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) carded a 6-over 78 to earn a share of 50th position alongside classmate Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.), who shot an 80 on Tuesday, at 16-over 232. 

Senior Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) and junior Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) both shot 79 in Tuesday's final round and finished in a tie for 56th place at 17-over 233. 

Babson has concluded the fall portion of its schedule and will return to action at the Tiger Invitational on March 9-10 in Pinehurst, N.C. 

TOURNAMENT NOTES
•    The Tartan Invitational featured seven of the top eight teams in the most recent Bushnell Golfweek Division III poll and Tuesday's scoring average of 77.02 was the highest of the three rounds on Laurel Valley Golf Club's 7,022-yard layout.
•    Quinn tied for fifth in the field with 35 pars while Vantipalli's 34 pars were good for a tie for eighth place. 
•    The Beavers finished fourth in the 16-team field in par-4 scoring at 26-over. 
•    Babson, which won the Williams Invitational and finished second at Middlebury's Duke Nelson Invitational, concluded the fall with a 296.91 team scoring average in 11 rounds.
