Late Surge Helps Men's Golf Move into a Tie for 6th After 36 Holes at the Tartan Invitational

LIGONIER, Pa.—Senior Colin Fowler (Portland, Ore.) is three shots off the lead, junior Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) posted one of the low rounds of the afternoon session and the Babson College men's golf team surged into a tie for sixth place after 36 holes of the Tartan Invitational at Laurel Valley Golf Club.

The Beavers shot 305-296 to finish the day with a 25-over total of 601 that has them tied with eight-ranked Washington & Lee. No. 23 Rochester (589) holds a one-stroke lead over No. 3 Emory and is two shots ahead of No. 6 Huntingdon (591). No. 5 Illinois Wesleyan (597) and Hampden-Sydney (600) are currently fourth and fifth in a field that features seven of the top eight teams in the latest Bushnell Golfweek Division III poll.

Fowler put together a pair of steady rounds carding a 1-over 73 in the morning and a 2-over 74 in round two to finish the day in a tie for seventh place at 3-over. He birdied the final hole of his morning round and made two birdies and four bogeys in the afternoon.

Sophomore Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) bounced back from a tough start to play his final 28 holes in 2-over and is one of seven players tied for 30th position at 8-over. He closed round one with a birdie on the par-5 sixth hole to post a 6-over 78 and made a pair of birdies over the final five holes of his afternoon round on the way to carding a 2-over 74.

Berry, senior Shane Quinn (Morristown, N.J.) and sophomore Chad Tordone (Barnstable, Mass.) are three of 14 players tied for 46th place at 10-over through two rounds. Berry bounced back from an opening 82 with three birdies and three bogeys on the way to firing an ever-par 72, and was one of just nine players to finish at even par or better in the afternoon.

Quinn, who joined Fowler as the only Babson players to avoid a double bogey or worse on Monday, shot a 4-over 76 in round one and followed it up with a 78 in the second round. Tordone made three birdies as part of a first round 78 and bounced back from an early quadruple bogey by playing his final 15 holes in even par to post a 4-over 76 in round two.

Final round play is set to begin at 9 a.m. at Laurel Valley Golf Club.
