Women's Basketball Hosts Emerson in its NEWMAC Opener on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 14-2 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to 2014. 
•    The Beavers had their four-game winning streak against the Lions snapped last season in Boston. 
•    The Green and White is 9-0 all-time against Emerson inside Staake Gymnasium. 
•    Just one of the 16 games between the teams has been decided by single digits, a 76-73 Babson win back on February 6, 2014. 

LAST MEETING
•    Bri Frongillo led all scorers with 30 points and Ella Bushee added 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting to help Emerson defeat Babson, 78-64, on January 13, 2024, in Boston. 
•    Fongillo went 13-of-14 at the free throw line and Olivia Deslauriers scored eight of her 11 points in the fourth quarter for the Lions, who used a 29-point second quarter to take the lead for good. 
•    Senior Katelyn Mollica and sophomore Samantha Reale both scored 16 points and senior Camilla Silk added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Beavers, who led by as many as nine in the early going but shot just 35.3 percent over the final three quarters. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (8-6, 0-0 NEWMAC) enters conference play having won four of its last six games after edging Springfield 67-65 on Wednesday night. 
•    Mollica tied for game-high honors with 21 points, Reale contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, and senior Emily Flynn posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards for the Beavers, who went 6-of-6 at the free throw line over the final 2:24 to seal the win. 
•    Mollica (14.3 pts, 2.0 reb) ranks second in Division III with 49 three-pointers after matching her career high with six against Springfield, Reale (13.4 pts, 6.9 reb, 2.5 ast, 2.3 stl) leads the team in steals and has scored in double figures in four consecutive outings, and Flynn (10.4 pts, 7.0 reb, 3.0 ast) is shooting 45.6 percent overall and 43.9 percent from beyond the arc. 
•    The Green and White is allowing 61.2 points on just 37.1 percent shooting and owns a +6.4 rebounding margin. 
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
•    Emerson (9-5, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won four of its last five outings and is coming off a 63-51 victory over Worcester State back on January 8. 
•    Frongillo scored 22 points and Charlotte Levison contributed 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Lions, who forced 20 turnovers and outscored the Lancers 30-21 in the paint. 
•    Frongillo (21.8 pts, 5.1 reb, 4.9 ast) has scored 20 or more points in six of eight games this winter, Jessie Silk (11.0 pts, 6.0 reb, 4.2 ast) leads the team in assists and steals, and Claire English (10.1 pts, 8.9 reb, 2.4 blocks) has recorded six double-doubles on the year. 
•    Emerson, which has held 13 of its first 14 opponents below 40 percent shooting, averages 65 points on 41.5 percent shooting while committing 20 turnovers per game. 

REVISITING THE NEWMAC PRESEASON POLL
•    Babson received two first-place votes and finished in a tie for third place with Springfield when the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll was released back in October. 
•    No. 8/8 Smith, which has captured four consecutive conference titles, finished atop the poll ahead of second-place MIT. 
•    Emerson was picked to finish eighth after wrapping up league play at 4-7 last winter. 

THREE GOGGLES
•    The Beavers, who rank 11th in Division III in three-point field goal percentage at 35.8 percent, knocked down 10 triples in Wednesday's win over Springfield and 25-of-56 (44.6 percent) from long distance over the last three games. 
•    Babson has made at least eight three-pointers in five of its seven home games and is shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc inside Staake Gymnasium. 

HOME SWEET HOME
•    The Beavers are 5-2 inside Staake Gymnasium this winter while averaging 70.9 points on 41.9 percent shooting and putting up 1.00 points per possession. 
•    The Green and White has gotten off to fast starts averaging 20.7 points in the opening quarter and scoring at least 19 points five times. 
•    Babson has led after the first quarter in all seven of its home games and is outscoring its foes 145-75 in the first period. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Junior Chloe Perreault made her first start of the season on Wednesday and produced nine points and a season-best nine rebounds in 30 minutes. 
•    Mollica ranks third nationally in three-pointers per game (3.50), 12th in attempts (121) and 40th in three-point percentage (40.5), and now ranks second in program history with 176 three-pointers after Caitlin Boulier '08 on Wednesday night. 
•    Flynn has scored in double figures in six consecutive outings and has hit at least two three-pointers in five straight contests. 
•    Reale has at least one steal in each of her last 23 games and has finished with two or more steals in 10 of 14 contests this winter. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 4-0 this season and 15-3 over the last two years when shooting at least 40 percent. 
•    Babson is 6-1 this winter when holding its foes below 60 points. 
•    The Green and White has pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in seven straight games. 
•    The Beavers are 6-0 on the year and 18-1 going back to the start of last season when taking a lead into the fourth quarter.
