WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.—Sophomore
Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) closed with a round of 2-over 73 to finish in a tie for second place on the individual leaderboard as No. 21 Babson College tied for seventh at the Williams Invitational hosted by Taconic Golf Club on Sunday.
The Beavers tied for the second lowest final round score (303) and moved up one spot to seventh with a 36-hole score of 42-over 610. Gustavus Adolphus erased a seven-stroke deficit by shooting 287 to claim first place at 22-over 590. First round leader Middlebury (599) came in second, while Bowdoin (605), Amherst (607) and Tufts (607) rounded out the top five.
Eichenlaub, who started the day tied for the lead, bogeyed four of his first eight holes to slip to 5-over for the tournament. He made his first birdie of the day on the par-5 first hole and followed with another birdie on the par-4 third to pull into a tie with Endicott's Tyler Baker. The duo finished behind Christopher Gutaza of Gustavus Adolphus, who fired a final round 68.
Sophomore
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) bounced back from a first round 81 by shooting a 75 on Sunday to tie for 46th place at 14-over. Senior
John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) carded a final round 79 to finish in a tie for 54th position at 15-over.
First-year
Howie Poon (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) rebounded from Saturday's 82 by shooting a 5-over 76 to move into a tie for 60th at 16-over, while classmate
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) struggled to an 84 on Sunday and tied for 72nd overall at 18-over.
Babson returns to action on October 7-8 when it travels to Douglasville, Ga., to compete in the West Pines Collegiate.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Going back to the final tournament of last season, Eichenlaub has gone T5-T5-T2 in his last three starts and owns a 73.14 stroke average during this stretch.
• The Beavers' tie for seventh place snaps a string of seven consecutive top-five showings at the Williams Invitational dating back to 2016.
• Babson's score of 610 is its highest over 36 holes since April 17, 2023, when it shot 306-304 on the opening day of the Emory Invitational.
