MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Sophomore
Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) fired a 1-over 72 and recorded the second top-five finish of his career to help the 21st-ranked Babson College men's golf team place third in the Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralphy Myhre Golf Club on Sunday.
The Beavers' final round score of 10-over 294 was the second lowest of the day as they recorded a 36-hole total of 29-over 597. Hamilton came in first at 25-over 593, while Hartford was the runner-up at 27-over 595. Western New England (605) and Endicott (606) rounded out the top five.
Eichenlaub, who opened with a 74 on Saturday, put together a steady final round that included two birdies and three bogeys on the way to tying for fifth overall at 4-over 146. First-year
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) followed up an opening round 73 with a 4-over 75 to grab a share of 11th position at 6-over 148 in his first collegiate tournament.
Sophomore
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) rebounded from a first round 79 by firing a career-best 73 to finish the weekend at 10-over. Senior
John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) made three birdies in his final round on the way to shooting 74 to join Berry in a tie for 24th place.
Junior
Tomas Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) bounced back from an opening round 78 by carding a 4-over 75 on Sunday to move into a tie for 32nd position at 11-over 153.
Babson returns to action next Saturday and Sunday when it travels to Taconic Golf Club for the Williams Invitational.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Despite being unable to defend last year's Duke Nelson Invitational title, the Beavers have now recorded seven consecutive top-three finishes at Middlebury.
• Eichenlaub, who also tied for fifth place at last year's 54-hole Cochran Collegiate, now owns two top-10 finishes in two starts at the Duke Nelson Invitational after tying for ninth in his collegiate debut last season.
• Babson owns a 293.43 team scoring average in 14 rounds at Ralph Myhre GC going back to 2017.
