WHAT TO KNOW

•    After capturing its second consecutive NEWMAC championship last Saturday, Babson will head to Rochester, N.Y., and the campus of RIT for the second and third rounds of the NCAA Tournament. 
•    The Beavers will take on RV/No. 19 Denison in Friday's second round with the winner advancing to face No. 2/3 RIT or Hope on Saturday afternoon. 

SERIES HISTORY
•    First meeting 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 10 USILA/No. 11 USA Lacrosse Babson (15-3) has won four consecutive games after routing Springfield 19-8 in last Saturday's NEWMAC Tournament final. 
•    Graduate student Jared Rainville (6g, 2a) put up a game-high eight points, senior Jacob Tauss and first-year Rowan Mondello both scored three times, and junior goalkeeper Alex Fascilla made 18 saves for the Beavers, who put together a four-goal run in each of the first two quarters to lead 10-4 at the half. 
•    Rainville (74-24-98) ranks fourth in Division III averaging 4.11 goals per game, senior Topher Bower (16-40-56) and junior Bennett Smith (10-36-46) are both contributing over two assists per game, and Tauss has scored a career-high 29 goals to go along with eight assists for a career-best 37 points. 
•    The duo of graduate student James Turco (101 GB) and senior Grey Sunderland (77 GB) have won 62 percent of their face-offs, senior Brendan Maher (40 GB, 22 CT) leads the defense in caused turnovers and Fascilla has gone 11-1 as a starter and ranks 19th in Division III in goals against average (8.73) and is eighth nationally with a .624 save percentage. 

SCOUTING THE BIG RED
•    RV USILA/No. 19 USA Lacrosse Denison (14-5) has won 10 straight games after rallying for a 15-11 victory over Kenyon in the North Coast Athletics Conference (NCAC) Tournament final last Sunday. 
•    Luke Fisher finished with four goals and three assists, Tommy Quinson and Nick Vance both scored three times, and Andrew Albert made 11 saves for the Big Red, which trailed 10-8 before going in front for good with a four-goal run late in the third quarter. 
•    Fisher (63-40-103) ranks 17th in Division III average 5.42 points per game, Quinson (57-16-73) has multiple goals in 10 straight games, Nate Kay (41-18-59) is tied for the team lead with nine man-up tallies and Vance (26-9-35) owns a 12-game scoring streak. 
•    The duo of Grant Larson (110 GB) and Colin MacLean (67 GB) have won 62.4 percent of their face-offs, Owen O'Neill and Brooks Crowley are tied for the team lead with 21 forced turnovers, and Albert (14-5) boasts a 9.27 goals against average and a .539 save percentage in 19 starts. 

BABSON IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT 
•    The Beavers are making their third NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons and the fourth in program history. 
•    Babson defeated Williams in the second round of last year's championship for the program's first NCAA Tournament win before falling to RIT in the third round. 

DENISON IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
•    The Big Red is back in the NCAA Tournament for the eighth year in a row and the 28th time in program history. 
•    Denison has won seven consecutive second round games and has advanced to the national quarterfinals four times over the last 10 years (2014, 2016, 2017, 2019). 

NINE BEAVERS EARN ALL-NEWMAC RECOGNITION
•    For the second consecutive season, Babson saw nine players earn all-conference honors when the NEWMAC announced its postseason awards
•    Rainville (Player of the Year), Fascilla (Defensive Player of the Year), Bower, Maher, Turco, graduate student Chip Quinn and junior Gavin Bailey were all named to the first team, while senior Ford Carney and the league's co-rookie of the year Seamus Rooney garnered second-team honors. 
•    Head coach Rockey Batty and assistants Devin Newell, Daniel Crotty and Jack Mahony MSF '23 were also tabbed as the NEWMAC's Coaching Staff of the Year. 

PUTTING THEIR STAMP ON THE RECORD BOOKS
•    Rainville's 74 goals are a new single-season Babson record passing the previous mark of 71 by Josh Shafer '95 back in 1995. He also is just four points shy of Shafer's school record of 102 points achieved 29 years ago. 
•    Bower's 40 helpers are the most by a Babson player since Hall of Famer Chris Grant '81 dished out a single-season record 47 assists back in 1979. He also ranks fifth all-time with 71 assists and 14th with 128 career points. 
•    Turco is just the fifth individual in program history to scoop up more than 100 ground balls in a season. 
•    Maher is tied for seventh on the program's all-time list with 53 caused turnovers. 
•    Sunderland, who was already the program's all-time leader entering the season, has won 612 career face-offs and collected 389 ground balls over the last four seasons. 
•    Rooney, who has missed the last four games due to injury, has 31 goals and 11 assists for 42 points this season, which is good for the highest total by a Babson rookie since 2010. 

THE MIGHTY QUINN(S)
•    Along with Maher, Chip Quinn and senior Dillon Quinn have started all 18 games this season for a Babson defense that has allowed nine goals or fewer in 10 of the last 11 games. 
•    Chip Quinn (49 GB, 19 CT), who picked up his first two assists of the year in last Thursday's NEWMAC semifinal win over Wheaton, ranks second on the team in caused turnovers, while Dillon Quinn leads all Beavers' long poles with 53 ground balls and has contributed 17 forced turnovers. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Rainville has a point in 46 consecutive games and a goal in 45 straight outings going back to his time at Connecticut College. 
•    Bower enters the NCAA Tournament riding a 22-game points streak, while first-year Luke Wang and Tauss have scored in 11 and six consecutive games, respectively. 

RANKED CHALLENGES
•    Denison will be the Beavers' sixth nationally-ranked opponent of the season after going 2-3 during the regular season with wins over then-No. 6 Middlebury on March 10 and then-No. 9 Bowdoin on March 26 along with early-season losses to then-No. 11 Union and then-No. 19 Williams, as well as a 17-11 defeat at the hands of fourth-ranked Tufts on April 16. 
•    The Big Red is 0-4 against ranked foes, which includes a 22-8 loss to RIT in its season opener and three straight setbacks to Washington & Lee, Lynchburg and Gettysburg, all of which were ranked 13th when they played back in early March. 

TOURNAMENT TESTED
•    Sunderland has won 55.7 percent of his face-offs (142-of-255) while scooping up 87 ground balls in 11 career postseason games. 
•    Smith (1-11-12) and Tauss (10-2-12) have combined for 24 points in six postseason games over the last two seasons. 
•    Bower has produced 13 goals and six assists for 19 points in eight postseason games going back to the 2022 NEWMAC semifinals. 

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
•    Babson ranks third in Division III in man-up offense scoring on 54.9 percent of its chances this season and is 22-of-33 for a 66.7 percent conversion rate over the last 11 games. 
•    The Green and White is 32nd nationally in face-off winning percentage (.613), which is one spot better than Denison, which is one spot higher than Denison, which has won 61.2 percent of its face-offs. 
•    The Beavers rank 18th in Division III in scoring offense (16.06) and 23rd in scoring defense (8.67). 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 14-0 this season and 41-2 going back to the start of the 2020 season when leading at halftime. 
•    Babson is 12-0 this year and has won 29 of its last 30 games when scoring at least 14 goals. 
•    The Green and White is 11-0 this season when allowing eight goals or fewer. 
•    The Beavers are 14-1 when winning at least 50 percent of their face-offs. 
•    Babson is 13-2 this season when recording at least eight caused turnovers. 
•    The Green and White is 12-1 on the year when scoring a man-up goal.
