BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Braden Reilly (Belmont, Mass.) finished with five goals and one assist and junior Sam Sisk (Madison, Conn.) added three goals and three assists to help No. 3 Babson defeat Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 26-8, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon at MacDowell Field.
With its fifth consecutive victory, Babson improves to 17-4 to set a new single-season record for wins. The Beavers also advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four seasons. Mass. Maritime, which reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history, ends a historic season at 16-3.
Graduate student Patrick McAleavey (Trumbull, Conn.) scored four times, while senior Jack Feeks (Georgetown, Mass.) and juniors Seamus Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.), Rowan Mondello (Wakefield, Mass.) and Andrew Berardi (Orleans, Mass.) each scored for the Beavers, who got points from 16 different players. Senior Will Reading (Southlake, Texas) and sophomore Beck Trafton (Miami Beach, Fla.) combined to win 26-of-29 faceoffs and scooped up nine and eight ground balls, respectively, and sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Almquist (Wakefield, Mass.) made 13 saves in the win.
Sophomore James Sullivan (Scituate, Mass.) finished with four goals and one assist for five points, senior Daniel Kane (Marshfield, Mass.) scored three times, and senior Chris Sullivan (Scituate, Mass.) added seven ground balls and three caused turnovers to lead the Buccaneers. First-year goalkeeper Nicholas Hall (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) stopped six shots in the loss.
McAleavey and Kane traded goals over the first three minutes before the Green and White scored nine straight to seize command of the game. Graduate student Joey Allen (Philadelphia, Pa.) started the run, Reilly had a hand in three straight tallies, Rooney scored twice and Sisk added a goal and an assist to give the Beavers a 10-1 lead with 21 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Feeks and Reilly scored early in the second, McAleavey notched his fourth marker of the game at the 6:24 mark, and Reilly and Sisk answered a goal by Kane to send Babson into halftime up 15-4. Reilly scored twice over the first two and a half minutes of the third quarter and the Beavers responded to Kane's third tally with six straight goals in a span of less than four minutes to take their largest advantage of the afternoon at 25-5 with 4:40 to play in the stanza.
Sullivan scored three straight goals in the fourth for Mass. Maritime before Babson senior Samir McElroy (Harlem, N.Y.) notched the first goal of his career with 2:50 to go for the final margin.
The Beavers held the edge in shots (61-39), ground balls (46-26) and face-offs (32-5), and were a perfect 19-for-19 on clears in Saturday's victory.
Babson will face No. 16 St. Lawrence in Sunday's NCAA Tournament third round at 3 p.m. on MacDowell Field.
GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 29-1 all-time against Mass. Maritime although Saturday's matchup was the first between the teams since 2019.
• Babson is 4-5 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, which includes a 3-1 mark in second round games over the last four seasons.
• Senior Bennett Smith (Lake Oswego, Ore.) dished out two assists in Saturday's win and is the Beavers' only player with a point in all 19 games this spring.
• The Green and White has now won 31 straight games when scoring at least 10 goals.
• Babson's 17 wins this season surpasses the previous record of 16 back in 2024.
