WHAT TO KNOW
• The No. 3-ranked Babson Beavers will host No. 20 St. Lawrence Saints in an NCAA Division III Tournament third -round game on Sunday at 3 p.m. at MacDowell Field.
• Sunday's winners will advance to the NCAA quarterfinal round next weekend.

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 0-2 all-time against St. Lawrence in a series that dates back to 2014.
• The Saints defeated the Beavers 15-4 back on March 1, 2014 in Greenwich, Conn.
• No. 5 St. Lawrence won the second matchup over the Beavers, 11-8, in Tampa, Fla.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
NCAA Tournament Appearance: 6th
Best NCAA Finish: 2025 quarterfinals 

• Babson (17-2), ranked third in Division III by the USILA, breezed past Massachusetts Maritime in Saturday's second round contest at MacDowell Field for its fifth straight victory.
• Senior Braden Reilly, junior Sam Sisk added three goals and three assists, and graduate student Patrick McAleavey scored four times, while senior Jack Feeks and juniors Seamus Rooney, Rowan Mondello and Andrew Berardi each scored for the Beavers, who got points from 16 different players. Senior Will Reading and sophomore Beck Trafton combined to win 26-of-29 faceoffs and scooped up nine and eight ground balls, respectively, and sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Almquist made 13 saves in the win. 
• Allen (41-25-66) is in the top five in the NEWMAC in goals, assists and points, senior Bennett Smith (25-30-55) is third in the league in assists and sixth in points, and Reilly (26-24-50), juniors Camden Matthews (30-11-41) and Rooney (27-11-38) and McAleavey (30-4-34) give the Beavers six players with at least 25 goals and 34 points. Grad student Beau Burns has won 74.2 percent of his face-offs (175-236) and leads the team with 128 ground balls and Trafton (.503) has won 84-of-167 face-offs.
• Senior Tyee Ambrosh (20 CT, 32 GB) and Dorr (18 CT, 41 GB) have combined for 38 caused turnovers and 73 ground balls. Juniors Ryan St. Onge, Ellis McDonald and Bruno Batty anchor a Beaver defense that ranks 18th in Division III conceding 8.06 goals per game. Almquist (8.27 GAA,.615 sv. pct., 238 svs) leads the NEWMAC in GAA, save percentage and total saves.
 
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
NCAA Tournament Appearance: 16th
• No. 16 St. Lawrence (12-6) advanced to the third round with a 14-10 victory over No. 17 Hamilton Saturday at MacDowell Field
• Jamie Rosenzweig surpassed 100 career points, senior Ted Wilson scored four goals, and goaltender Heath Mann recorded 14 saves to lead the Saints. Wilson added an assist for five points on the day, while Rosenzweig recorded two goals and an assist. Daniel Mahoney also tallied two goals and an assist, while Henry Crean and Cam Croasdaile finished with one of each. Dan Anderson, Charlie Cunningham, Drew Knight and Asa Beach also scored for SLU. Rosenzweig picked up five ground balls, while Drew Knight picked up six and caused three turnovers. Wyatt Ryckert won nine faceoffs and picked up four ground balls.
• Mahoney (46-29-75) is among the Liberty League leaders in scoring and pairs with Rosenzweig (14-37-51) for a strong 1-2 punch. Patrick Murray (29-3-32) and Ted Wilson (25-6-31) are strong goal scorers, while Williams Abplanalp (168-338, .497) and Reid Mather (41-65, .631) are solid face-off men.
• Knight has team highs of 38 caused turnovers and 138 ground balls and Quin Fedor has 26 caused turnovers and 30 ground balls. Mann (10.48 GAA, .567 sv. pct., 136 svs) and Rafferty Callahan (11.51 GAA,.482 sv. pct., 82 svs) and both 6-3 between the pipes.

BABSON IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT 
• After competing in just one NCAA Tournament appearance (1979) in the first 50 years of the program, the Beavers are making their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last six seasons and the sixth in program history, posting a 3-5 record in their first five showings.
• The Green and White routed Western Connecticut in the opening round last season in Babson Park, 24-4, before falling to No. 5 Wesleyan in the second round, 16-7, in Middletown, Conn.
• Babson defeated No. 19 Denison in the second round of the 2024 tournament, 12-10, before falling to No. 2/3 RIT, 23-16, in the third round in Rochester, N.Y.
• The Green and White defeated Williams, 16-10, in the second round of the 2023 championships for the program's first NCAA Tournament win before falling to RIT, 20-9, in the third round.
• The first NCAA appearance for Babson was back in 1979, when the Beavers fell to Maryland-Baltimore County in the Division II tourney, 22-7, in Baltimore.

TOURNAMENT TESTED
• Smith and Tyee Ambrosh entered the weekend having each played in six NCAA Tournament games, with Smith scoring 10 goals and five assists and Ambrosh collecting six ground balls and causing four turnovers.
• Matthews (6g, 3a), Feeks (1g ,1a),  and juniors Luke Wang (4g, 3a) and Rowan Mondello (1a) have all appeared in four NCAA Tournament games, while Batty (4 GB, 1 CT), St. Onge (2 GB, 2 CT) and senior Will Reading (32-58 FO, 15 GB, 1g) have seen action in three NCAA games.
• Rooney (6g, 6a) has played in two NCAA games, Reilly (2g, 2a) has played in one game, and Almquist (1 GA, 5 svs) has seen action in roughly 10 minutes off the bench in two games.

SMITH, ALMQUIST, COACHES RECEIVE MAJOR AWARDS AS 10 BEAVERS NAMED ALL-NEWMAC
• Smith was named Athlete of the Year, Almquist was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year, and Rocky Batty and his assistants were named Coaching Staff of the Year when the NEWMAC announced its postseason awards on Thursday. 
• Smith and Almquist were joined on the All-Conference First Team by Allen, Burns, Dorr, Ambrosh, St Onge, and Bruno Batty, while McAleavey and Rooney were Second Team honorees.
• It was the third All-Conference selections for Smith and Rooney and the others were recognized for the first time in their respective careers.

MACDOWELL MENACES
• After the win over Mass Maritime, the Beavers are 9-2 at home with wins in 19 of their last 22 home games dating back to last season.
• The Green and White have won 28 of their last 31 home games going back to the start of the 2024 campaign.
• In the 11 home games this season, Babson has outscored its opponents 181-79.
• Since 2016, the Beavers have won 12 consecutive postseason home games, 10 in the NEWMAC Tournament in addition to two in the NCAA Tournament.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
• Almquist has been outstanding in the crease for the Beavers in his first year as the starter, posting double-digit saves in 14 of his 19 games.
• The Babson sophomore is ranked seventh in Division III in save percentage (.613) and 15th in goals against average (8.29).
• Almquist owns the single-season program record with 17 wins this season in goal, and his 225 saves is second on the program's single-season saves list.

CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Smith (77-103-180) became the third player in program history to record 100 assists and is in sixth place on the Babson career scoring list with 180 points.
• Rooney has moved up to 13th on the program's career goal scoring list with 91 goals, and is also tied for 14th with Spencer Low (2013-16) on the career points list with 139.
• Burns has produced 169 face-off wins this year, which ranks seventh on the Babson single-season face-off wins list, and his 124 ground balls are third-most in a season in program history.
• Tyee Ambrosh has moved into a tie with Cam Spofford (2011-14) and John Clausing (2011-13) for 15th place all-time with 40 caused turnovers.

BEAVER BITES
• Smith has multiple points in 16 of 18 games this season, and he is the only Beaver who has points in all 16 games.
• Allen has at least three points in 10 of his last 11 games and at least one point in 16 of his 17 appearances.
• Rooney brings a 34-game point streak into the weekend dating back to the start of last season.
• Matthews has three points in six of his last eight games and 11 of his 17 outings. McAleavey has points in 17 of his 18 games this spring.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 30 in a row since the start of last year when scoring at least 10 goals.
• The Beavers are 13-1 this season and 24-3 going back to last spring when holding a lead at halftime.
• Since the start of the 2024 campaign, Babson is 37-4 when winning at least 50 percent of its face-offs. 
• Going back to 2023, the Beavers are 10-3 in the month of May. 

UP NEXT
• The winner of Saturday's game will advance to an NCAA quarterfinal against either No. 4 Salisbury or No. 10 RIT.
