Baseball Hosts Doubleheader Against Clark on Saturday at Govoni Field

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 66-21 all-time against Clark in a series that dates back to 1983.
•    The Beavers have won nine straight games against the Cougars, which includes four in a row at Govoni Field going back to 2019.
•    Seven of the last 11 games between the teams have been decided by one or two runs, which includes all three meetings last season. 

LAST MEETING
•    Tim Noone '23 struck out six in a complete-game effort and Babson scored three times in the third inning on the way to defeating Clark, 4-2, in opening round of the NEWMAC Tournament on May 6, 2023, in Worcester, Mass. 
•    Junior Justin Guest walked and scored and sophomore Chris Basile added an RBI ground out in the third, while Michael Cook '23 tacked on an insurance run with a solo homer in the ninth for the Beavers, who got a hit from seven different players in the win. 
•    Tyler Jones and Samuel Farrell both hit solo homers for the Cougars, who got a complete-game effort (1 ER, 3 SO) from Maxwell Gitlin in the loss. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (11-6) has won eight consecutive games after defeating MIT, 10-3, on Tuesday afternoon. 
•    Senior Tanner Santos went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs scored, classmate Brant Savage was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored and Guest and junior Walter Sadowsky both knocked in a pair of runs for the Beavers, who jumped out to a 5-0 first-inning lead. 
•    Savage is batting .392 with 11 doubles, five home runs, 19 RBI and 19 runs scored, Santos is hitting .350 with six doubles, 18 RBI, 11 stolen bases and 21 runs scored, and graduate student Luke Tanner boasts a .302 average to go along with three homers and a team-high 20 runs batted in. 
•    Graduate student Greg Nieskens (2-0, 3.86 ERA) has allowed two runs of fewer in three of his four starts, first-year Jason Finkelstein (3-1, 5.33 ERA) has 30 strikeouts in 27.0 innings and the duo of senior Jimmy Weick (0-1, 1.13 ERA) and graduate student Zach Magee (1 save, 5.79 ERA) have combined to hold opposing hitters to a .209 average out of the bullpen. 

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
•    Clark (17-5, 2-2 NEWMAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 3-0 win over Emerson on Tuesday afternoon. 
•    Jones recorded a sacrifice fly in the second inning, Carter Doran was plunked with the bases loaded in the fourth and Gitlin struck out seven as part of a five-hit shutout for the Cougars, who stranded 14 men on base in the win. 
•    Dom Mariani ranks fifth in the NEWMAC in batting average (.432) to go along with 11 extra-base hits, 20 RBI and 25 runs scored, Billy Sullivan is batting .431 with eight doubles, two triples, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored, and Doran is hitting .390 with 11 extra-base hits and team highs of 22 RBI and 26 runs scored. 
•    Gitlin is 6-0 with a 1.40 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in 45.0 innings pitched, Casey Gorczyca is 3-2 with a 4.68 earned run average in 25.0 innings and Benjamin Spencer is 2-0 with three saves and a 3.00 ERA in seven relief appearances this spring. 

STRONG STARTS
•    Sophomore James Clark, who struck out four and allowed three runs over a career-best 7.0 innings on Tuesday against MIT, added to the Beavers run of strong starts from its rotation. 
•    Over the last five games, Babson's starting pitchers have gone 5-0 with a 1.44 ERA and a 0.89 WHIP in 31.1 innings pitched. 
•    Junior Luke McClintock allowed one hit over 6.0 innings in last Wednesday's 2-0 win over Suffolk, Nieskens gave up two runs on three hits over 6.0 innings of work in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Emerson, and first-year Jason Finklestein followed it up with nine strikeouts over 5.1 shutout innings in game two against the Lions. 
•    Sophomore Connor Doan put together the best start of his career in Monday's win, tossing 7.0 shutout innings to lead the Beavers past the Corsairs. 

PLAYING FROM IN FRONT
•    During its eight-game winning streak, the Beavers have scored the first run of the game six times and have outscored their opponents 53-11 over the first five innings. 
•    The Beavers have scored first in each of their last five outings and have not trailed in any of their first six home games this spring. 

COUGAR HUNTERS
•    Santos hit .400 (4-for-10) and had a .563 on-base percentage in three games against Clark last season.
•    Sophomore Ryan Hvozdovic had three multi-hit games and hit .400 (6-for-15) with one RBI in three starts versus the Cougars last season. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Santos has reached base safely in 18 consecutive starts going back to the end of last season and is tied for first on the team with a .500 on-base percentage this spring. 
•    Wilson, who has reached base in 12 straight games, has a hit in six consecutive outings to raise his average to .391 on the year and enters the weekend with a .500 OBP. 
•    Graduate student John Nowak has a hit in five straight games and has reached base in each of his last 10 starts. 
•    Junior Jack Julian has reached base safely in nine consecutive games and has scored at least one run in each of his last 11 starts. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are hitting .350 on the year with runners in scoring position. 
•    Babson is 6-0 on the year at home and has gone 31-7 at Govoni Field going back to 2022.
•    The Green and White is 10-3 this spring when it outhits its opponents. 
•    Babson is 9-1 on the season when leading after six innings.
