No. 18 Women's Tennis Eases Past Wheaton, 9-0

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Four players earned points in both singles and doubles to help 18th-ranked Babson College defeat visiting Wheaton College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts. 

With the win, Babson improves to 11-5 overall and 7-1 in conference play. Wheaton dropped its fourth consecutive match to slip to 9-8 overall and 3-5 in the NEWMAC. 

The Beavers made quick work of the Lyons in doubles, beginning with an 8-0 victory by senior Jane Wang (San Diego, Calif.) and sophomore Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) at number three. Senior Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) and first-year Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) followed with another 8-0 win at number two, while sophomore Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) and first-year Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) completed the sweep with an 8-3 triumph over sophomores Alissa Ortiz (El Paso, Texas) and Kara Greenlee (San Antonio, Texas) at number one. 

Keitt picked up her second point of the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three singles, while Kamal posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number four. Khattar cruised to 6-0, 6-1 triumph at number five and Wang defeated Wheaton sophomore Haylee Doiron (Lowell, Mass), 6-0, 6-0 at number six. 

Babson finished off the match with a pair of straight-set wins at the top two singles positions. Junior Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at number one and sophomore Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas) recorded a 6-0, 6-3 victory at number two. 

Both teams conclude the regular season on Saturday as Babson hosts Wellesley at 4 p.m., while Wheaton takes on Smith at 12 p.m. 

MATCH NOTES
•    The Beavers are 20-11 all-time against Wheaton and have won the last nine matches between the teams. 
•    Wang (5-0), Kamal (4-0) and Khattar (3-0) all remained unbeaten in the year with their wins in singles against the Lyons.
