No. 33 Men's Tennis Blanks Springfield in NEWMAC Regular Season Finale, 9-0

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.— Graduate student Jonah Wilson (Gilbert, Ariz.) and first-year Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) registered points in both singles and doubles as No. 33 Babson College breezed to a 9-0 victory over Springfield College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis match Saturday morning indoors at the Boston Sports Club on the Babson campus.
 
With the victory, Babson extended its winning streak to five, improving to 12-8 overall, and wrapped up the NEWMAC regular season slate in second place with a 6-1 record. Springfield lost its fifth straight match to complete its regular season at 4-11 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC, finishing in fifth place and earning the final conference playoff berth.
 
Babson also celebrated Senior Day, honoring senior Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico), Wilson and fellow graduate student Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.).
 
Junior Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-years Kerem Ozlale (Istanbu, Turkey), Mattias Harrell (Oslo, Norway) and Brandon Reznik (Boca Raton, Fla.) also posted singles wins for the Beavers. Watson, Gonzalez, junior Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) and sophomore Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) picked up points in the doubles column in the Beaver victory.
 
The Green and White cruised to a 3-0 lead in the doubles portion of the match. Back and Mejia posted an 8-1 victory at number three, Lepsoe and Gonzalez were 8-3 winners at number two, and Wilson and Watson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 verdict at number one.
 
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Wilson won 6-0, 6-4 at number one, Ozlale captured a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number two, and Back recorded his second win of the day with a 6-1, 6-4 decision at number three. Zhang had little trouble in a 6-0, 6-1 win at number four, Harrell won 6-0, 6-3 at number five, and Harrell rounded out the team victory with a 6-0, 6-3 win at number six.
 
The Beavers will conclude the regular season on Sunday with a non-conference match against No. 37 Hobart at 10 a.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts. Springfield will play a NEWMAC Tournament first-round match at Clark on Tuesday.
 
MATCH NOTES
• Babson has won 11 in a row and is 20-6 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 2000.
• The Beavers is 19-3 in the regular season against NEWMAC foes over the past three years.
• The Green and White are 10-1 this season against opponents outside the ITA Top 40.
