Baseball Welcomes WPI to Govoni Field for Doubleheader on Sunday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    Following Saturday's postponement, Babson will host WPI for a pair of games at Govoni Field on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m. 

SERIES HISTORY
•    Babson is 56-24 all-time against the Engineers in a series that dates back to 1983. 
•    The Beavers have won seven in a row and 11 of their last 12 games versus WPI since 2018.
•    The Green and White's last six wins over the Engineers have come at Govoni Field. 

LAST MEETING
•    Senior Tanner Santos went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs scored, and sophomore Chris Basile was 3-for-5 with three RBI to help the Beavers defeat WPI, 10-3, in game two of a doubleheader on April 8, 2023, in Babson Park. 
•    Senior Brant Savage went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored, while sophomore Ryan Hvozdovic singled three times and knocked in a run for Babson, which got seven innings of one-run ball from Anthony St. John '23. 
•    Jeffrey Brennan, Danny Johnson and Jake DelMonte all finished with two hits apiece for the Engineers, who made five errors in the loss. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (16-8, 6-2 NEWMAC) has won two straight games after defeating Tufts, 10-7, on Wednesday afternoon. 
•    Santos went 3-for-4 with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored, first-year Dante D'Avanzo was 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, and Savage doubled and knocked in three runs for the Beavers, who scored nine runs over the first three innings.
•    Savage is batting .378 with 15 doubles, five home runs, 25 RBI and 21 runs scored, Santos is hitting .372 with six doubles, 22 RBI, 17 stolen bases and 29 runs scored, and junior Justin Guest checks in at .371 with seven doubles, two homers, 15 RBI and 19 runs scored. 
•    Graduate student Greg Nieskens is 2-1 with a 3.71 ERA and is holding opposing hitters to a .224 average in 34.0 innings of work, sophomore James Clark is 3-2 with a 4.93 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 34.2 innings, and classmate Zander Teator is 3-1 with one save and 15 strikeouts in 9.2 innings of relief. 

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
•    WPI (16-11-1, 4-4 NEWMAC) has just one victory over its last six games and is coming off a 9-9 tie at Roger Williams on Thursday afternoon. 
•    Andrew Cash went 3-for-6 with two RBI and three runs scored, Zachary Roethlein hit a two-run homer as part of a three-hit game, and James DiGiovanni singled twice and knocked in a pair of runs for the Engineers, who led 5-0 in the fourth and 8-4 in the sixth.
•    Cash is bating .375 with 10 doubles, seven homers, 33 RBI and 31 runs scored, Jacob Hand is hiting .369 with nine doubles, 10 home runs, 39 RBI and 42 runs scored, and Tommy Burns checks in at .342 with eight doubles, four dingers, 33 RBI and 25 runs scored. 
•    Noah Pins is 4-1 with a 5.01 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 32.1 innings, Owen Radcliffe is 4-2 with a 5.447 ERA and 47 strikeouts against just nine walks in 52.2 innings of work, and Eric DePiero (1-3, 2 saves) has a 2.65 earned run average in 17.0 innings out of the bullpen this spring. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Junior Walter Sadowsky has a hit in each of his last seven starts, while Savage enters Thursday's contest with a knock in six consecutive outings. 
•    Graduate student John Nowak has reached base safely in 14 straight games, Guest has gotten on base in 11 games in a row, and Savage and Kiely have both reached safely in eight consecutive starts. 
•    Santos has recorded at least one walk and one stolen base in three straight games. 
•    Graduate student Zach Magee has at least one strikeout in five consecutive appearances out of the bullpen and has not allowed a run or a hit in 5.0 innings pitched over his last four outings.

RECORD CHASERS
•    Savage, who has already set a new career high with 15 doubles, is just three shy of the single-season program record held by Dave Ahern '11 back in 2011. 
•    Santos moved into third place on Babson's all-time list with 45 stolen bases on Wednesday and trails only Steve Tahmoush '08 (55) and Adam Ayala (51) on the program's all-time chart.

CALL TO THE 'PEN
•    In nine games in the month of April, the bullpen trio of Teator, Magee and senior Jimmy Weick is 2-0 with one save, a 2.19 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 12.1 innings of work. 
•    Magee has recorded one save to go along with eight punchouts in 5.0 innings over four appearances, Teator is 2-0 in four appearances and Weick has allowed just one run in four outings. 

BEAVER BITES
•    D'Avanzo, who recorded his sixth multi-hit game on Wednesday, is 6-for-15 with six RBI and five runs scored over his last five outings.
•    Over the last six games, Santos is 11-for-22 (.500) at the plate with four RBI, eight runs scored and six stolen bases. 
•    Savage, Santos and graduate student Luke Tanner lead the Beavers with seven multi-RBI games apiece this spring.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 11-5 this season when scoring at least six runs.
•    Babson is 12-0 when giving up five runs or fewer on the year.
•    The Green and White is 5-1 in games decided by one or two runs. 
•    Babson is 13-1 when leading after six innings.
