SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 23-10 all-time against Wheaton in a series that dates back to 1996.
• The Beavers have dominated the series as of late winning 12 in a row and 15 of the last 17 matches between the programs going back to 2008.
LAST MEETING
• Five players recorded points in both singles and doubles to help No. 23 Babson defeat Wheaton, 9-0, on April 5, 2023 inside the Beard Fieldhouse in Norton, Mass.
• The Beavers made quick work of the Lyons in doubles as
Maxwell Conlin '23 and
Parker Law '23 cruised to an 8-1 result at number one,
Jack MacDonald '23 and
Jason Weisman '23 were 8-3 winners at number two and senior
Jose Gonzalez and sophomore
Martin Mejia completed the sweep with a 8-2 triumph at number three.
• Senior
Jett Hampton '23 secured Babson's first point in singles with an easy victory at number six. Weisman secured the decisive point with a win at number two and Gonzalez followed with a triumph at number four. MacDonald posted a win at number three, Mejia breezed to a victory at number five and Conlin finished off the verdict with a triumph at number one.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 32 Babson (10-8, 4-1 NEWMAC) has won three in a row and six of its last seven following Monday's 7-2 conference win at Coast Guard.
• Juniors
Ole Lepsoe and
Wesley Zhang and first-years
Kerem Ozlale and
Caymus Choi recorded wins in both singles and doubles in the victory, and Gonzalez posted a singles win. Ozlale won matches at number two singles and three doubles and Lepsoe garnered wins at third singles and third doubles to lead the Green and White.
• Ozlale (12-7) is 8-3 in singles in dual match play, including 4-2 at number one, while Gonzalez (13-11) is 7-6 in dual matches. Lepsoe (6-3) has all of his singles wins in dual matches, including 4-2 at number two, and Choi (6-9) and Zhang (5-3) both have five singles wins in dual matches.
• Junior
Brady Anderson and graduate student
Andrew Watson are 3-4 at number one doubles while Zhang and first-year
Logan Back are 3-2 in dual matches.
SCOUTING THE LYONS
• Wheaton (7-8, 2-3 NEWMAC) posted back-to-back 9-0 victories over UMass Boston and Salve Regina last week.
• First-years Jaime Galligo and Jake Murray led the Lyons with wins at number one doubles and numbers one and three singles. Classmate Paul Berteaux and senior Eli Hanlon took care of matters at second doubles and second and fifth singles, junior Daniel Bor won at fourth singles and with first-year Calvin Van Dyke at three doubles, and first-year Jack Thain was victorious at number six singles.
• Galligo (5-7) has played all of the dual matches at number one singles, and Berteaux (5-8) has played mostly at two singles. Murray (2-11) and Bor (4-6) hold down the middle of the singles line-up and Hanlon (3-8) and Van Dyke (4-5) have played at number five with Thain (5-5) at number six.
• Galligo and Murray are 4-4 at number one doubles, Hanlon and Berteaux are 3-3 at number two, and Bor and Van Dyke are 6-2 at number three.
NEWMAC WEEKLY HONORS
• Lepsoe represented the Beavers this week with NEWMAC weekly honors, earned singles athlete of the week after going 3-0 at number two.
• The Green and White have combined to win the top weekly singles honor four times this spring and the doubles team of the week four times.
A LOOK AT THE CONFERENCE RACE
• Now in the final week of the regular season, MIT (5-0) has a stronghold on the regular season race while Babson (4-1) sits in second place.
• Coast Guard (3-2) and Springfield (3-2) are in a tie for third place while Clark (2-3) and Wheaton (2-3) are battling for the final playoff berth. Emerson (0-4) and Salve Regina (0-4) round out the standings.
CONFERENCE DOMINANCE
• The Beavers have posted a 17-3 regular season record against NEWMAC foes over the past three seasons, and a 52-9 mark going back to 2013.
• The only conference losses in the past 10 years were to MIT (eight times) and Coast Guard (once, in 2022).
BEAVER BITES
• Babson is 8-0 this season with winning at least two double matches.
• The Beavers have won seven straight matches at second, fifth and sixth singles, and six of the last seven at number three singles.
• The Green and White are 8-1 this season against opponents outside the ITA Top 40 with the lone loss coming to Division I Bryant back in early February.
