Caymus Choi (Hong Kong, China) on the way to a 7-2 victory over the Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action Wednesday afternoon at the CGA Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson has won three straight matches in three days and six out of its last seven to improve to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC. Coast Guard has lost two in a row to fall to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Senior
Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) also recorded a singles win for the Beavers. Senior Myles Decoste (Stuart, Fla.) led the Bears with triumphs at number one singles and number one doubles.
The Beavers took a 2-1 lead after the doubles round. Zhang and Choi defeated senior Sean Dreher (Harker Heights, Texas) and first-year Benjamin Bonetto (Bend, Oregon) at number two, 8-6, and Lepsoe and Ozlale breezed past senior Logan De Los Santos (Tulsa, Okla.) and sophomore Brendan Love (Winchester, Va.) at number three, 8-3. The lone Bears' win came in the top flight, where Decoste and senior Charles Norman (Aurora, Ohio) knocked off graduate student
Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) and first-year
Logan Back (Busan, South Korea), 8-2.
Babson took the bottom four singles matches in straight sets as Lepsoe cruised past Dreher at number three, 6-4, 6-3; Choi needed a second-set tiebreaker to defeat Bonetto at number four, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4); Gonzalez eased past De Los Santos at number five, 6-1, 6-4; and Zhang defeated Love at number six, 6-0, 7-5.
Ozlale won the first set at number two in a tiebreaker before dropping the second set and then breezing to victory in the third set, 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 6-1; and Decoste won a third-set super-breaker over graduate student
Jonah Wilson (Gilbert, Ariz.) at number one, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-5).
The Beavers will be back on the road on Wednesday with a conference match at Wheaton at 4 p.m. in Norton, Mass.
