Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Mass.— The 36th-ranked Babson College men's tennis team sent split squad teams on the road to two different locations on Saturday but the results were the same as the Beavers posted a pair of shutout victories.
The first group defeated the College of the Holy Cross, 7-0, in non-conference action in Worcester, Mass., and the second group captured the third set in five of six singles matches on the way to a 9-0 victory over New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) newcomer Salve Regina University in Newport, R.I.
With the sweep, Babson evened its overall record at 7-7 and improved to 3-0 in NEWMAC play. Holy Cross is now 2-8 on the season and Salve Regina is 0-9 overall and 0-2 in conference matches.
Babson 7, Holy Cross 0 (at Worcester, Mass.)
Four of the six Babson players were winners in both singles and doubles on the day, led by junior
Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.), who came out on top at both number one singles and doubles. Anderson and graduate student
Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) produced a 6-2 win at number one doubles before Anderson won 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 at first singles and Watson took a 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 verdict at number four.
Junior
Wesley Zhang (Staten Island, N.Y.) and first-year
Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) had similar success at the other end of the line-up. They teamed up for a 6-1 victory at third doubles before Zhang captured a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph at fifth singles and Back won 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 at number six.
Babson earned a sweep in singles as junior
Ole Lepsoe (Oslo, Norway) pulled out a 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 win at number two, and first-year
Caymus Choi (Hong Kong, China) was the only singles winner in straight sets, finishing off a 6-4, 6-2 decision at number three. Choi and Lepsoe were taken down in second doubles by a 6-2 score, but the Beavers captured the doubles point with wins at one and three.
Babson 9, Salve Regina 0 (at Newport, R.I.)
All six players for the Green and White won their singles matches in straight sets after easy wins in doubles. Leading the way were senior
Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) and first-year
Mattias Harrell (Oslo, Norway), who did not lose a single game on the day. They combined for an 8-0 victory at number two doubles, and Gonzalez won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles while Harrell won by the same score at number four.
Sophomore
Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) and first-year
Brandon Reznik (Boca Raton, Fla.) paired up for an 8-1 verdict at number one doubles before Mejia won 6-0, 6-0 at six singles and Reznik took a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at number three. First-year
Kerem Ozlale (Istanbu, Turkey) and junior
Eshan Mukherjee (Basel Switzerland) made it a clean sweep for the Beavers, joining together for an 8-1 win at third doubles and Ozlale winning 6-1, 6-3 at first singles and Mukherjee taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision at number five.
The Beavers will be idle for 11 days before their next match at defending NEWMAC champion and 24th-ranked MIT on April 10 in Cambridge.
