No. 17/16 Men's Lacrosse Welcomes No. 9/9 Bowdoin to MacDowell Field for Key Regional Showdown Tuesday Night

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 2-22 all-time against Bowdoin in a series that dates back to 1978.
•    The Beavers have dropped all six matchups against the Polar Bears since the series returned following a 14-year hiatus in 2015. 
•    Each of the last two meetings have been decided by a single goal. 
•    Both teams enter Tuesday's contest ranked nationally for the second consecutive season. 

LAST MEETING
•    Jason Lach scored five goals and Ethan Barnard won 22-of-28 face-offs as Bowdoin built a six-goal advantage before holding on for a 13-12 win over Babson on March 28, 2023, in Brunswick, Maine. 
•    Will Spangenberg M'23 finished with three goals and two assists, senior Topher Bower scored three times and Ryan Kenney M'23 added two goals and two assists for the Beavers, who trailed 9-3 in the second quarter and 12-8 early in the fourth. 
•    Will Parducci '23 made 17 saves and senior Dillon Quinn added two caused turnovers for the Green and White. 
•    Robert Hobbs made 10 saves and Barnard led all players with 12 ground balls for the Polar Bears. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 17 USILA/No. 16 USA Lacrosse Babson (6-2) has won its last five games after dispatching MIT, 15-7, in a rematch of last year's NEWMAC Tournament final on Saturday. 
•    First-year Seamus Rooney recorded three goals and two assists, graduate student Jared Rainville and first-year Camden Matthews both scored three times and junior Alex Fascilla made 14 saves for the Beavers, who raced out to a 6-2 lead and put the game away with a four-goal run to start the third quarter. 
•    Rainville (29-8-37) has scored at least three goals in five of the first eight games, Rooney (24-9-33) leads the team with four man-up goals, Bower (11-13-24) is second on the team in assists and senior Jacob Tauss (13-4-17) has produced six multi-goal games. 
•    Graduate student James Turco has won 61.4 percent of his face-offs (70-of-114), junior Gavin Bailey (13 GB, 8 CT) leads the team in caused turnovers, Quinn has contributed 19 ground balls and seven caused turnovers, and Fascilla is 5-2 on the year with a 9.31 goals against average and a .588 save percentage. 

SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
•    No. 9 USILA/No. 9 USA Lacrosse Bowdoin (5-1) has won two straight games and is coming off a 22-13 rout of MIT last Tuesday. 
•    Casey Ryan (6g, 5a) finished with 11 points, Lach scored five goals and Will Byrne scored four times for the Polar Bears, who won 26-of-39 face-offs and got 13 combined saves from Hobbs and Jake Phillips. 
•    Byrne (15-21-36) ranks fourth in assists and 13th in Division III in points per game, Lach (19-7-26) has scored three or more goals in five of six games and Casey Ryan (16-10-26) has exploded for 12 goals and seven assists over his last two outings. 
•    Barnard won 73.7 percent of his face-offs over the first two games, Beau Burns is 55-of-112 (49.1 percent) on the year and the duo of Lane Harp and Nate Ryan lead the defense with 13 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. Hobbs has posted a 10.27 goals against average and a .556 save percentage in six starts. 

TURCO EARNS CONFERENCE RECOGNITION
•    
After winning 10-of-12 face-offs, scooping up six ground balls and scoring once in Saturday's win at MIT, Turco was selected as the NEWMAC Face-Off Specialist of the Week on Monday. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Rainville has scored at least one goal in 35 straight games going back to his time at Trinity, while sophomore Bennett Smith (16) and Bower (12) both extended their respective points streaks in Saturday's win at MIT. 
•    Rooney has a point in eight straight contests and fellow rookie Luke Wang has notched a goal in each of his last three outings. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    Bower currently ranks 14th in program history with 44 assists and along with his 52 goals is now just four points shy of 100 in his career. 
•    Smith's 38 assists over his first 26 games already has him tied for 16th all-time in program history. 

PRESENCE IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
•    Rainville enters the week ranked 29th in Division III in goals per game (3.63). 
•    Fascilla, who is 5-0 as a starter, ranks 35th in save percentage and 43rd in goals against average, and is averaging 12.43 saves per game. 
•    Turco is first in the NEWMAC and 55th in Division III with his 61.4 face-off winning percentage. 
•    As a team, the Beavers rank 24th in man-up offense converting 45.8 percent of their chances and 28th in Division III in scoring offense putting up 14.63 goals per game. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers have won their last seven games at MacDowell Field and are 10-2 at home going back to the start of last year. 
•    Babson is 5-4 over the last two seasons in games decided by two goals or fewer and five of its last eight games against nationally-ranked foes have been decided by one or two goals.
•    The Green and White is 22-1 since the start of the 2022 campaign when scoring at least 14 goals. 
•    Babson is 6-1 this season and 15-3 going back to start of last year when recording at least eight caused turnovers.
