No. 28 Redlands Slips Past No. 27 Men's Tennis, 5-4

Box Score REDLANDS, Calif.—No. 27 Babson College was victorious in four of six singles matches but saw its rally fall just short in a 5-4 loss to No. 28 University of Redlands in non-conference men's tennis action on Wednesday night at the Coach Jim Verdieck Tennis Center. 

Babson drops to 3-5 on the year with its fourth straight loss, while Redlands snapped a two-match losing skid to improve to 4-3 overall. 

Trailing 3-0 after doubles, the Green and White claimed the first two singles points to get itself back in the match. First-year Caymus Choi (Hong Kong, China) was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over first-year Jax Ledwith (West Lin, Ore.) at number five and classmate Kerem Ozlale (Istanbul, Turkey) followed with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at number two. 

Senior Jose Gonzalez (Mexico City, Mexico) suffered a 6-2, 6-3 loss to sophomore Dominic Anderson (Brisbane, Australia) at number three and Redlands clinched the match at number one where first-year Nico Calixto (Cathedral City, Calif.) downed Babson junior Brady Anderson (Rochester, N.Y.), 7-6, 4-6. First-year Logan Back (Busan, South Korea) rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 win over first-year Cooper Whittington (Lake Oswego, Ore.) at number six and graduate student Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) came from a set down to edge Bulldogs' first-year Gustavo Marcanth (Redondo Beach, Calif.) in a third-set superbreaker to win 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 at number four. 

The closest match in doubles came at number one where Watson and Anderson held a 5-4 lead before falling 8-5 to the Redlands duo of Calixto and junior Yoav Nir (Tel Aviv, Israel). Choi and sophomore Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) lost 8-2 at number two, while Ozlale and Back dropped an 8-3 decision at number three. 

Babson returns to action on Friday at 1 p.m. EDT when it faces 12th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus in the opening round of the Stag-Hen Classic at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. 

MATCH NOTES
•    Wednesday's matchup was the first all-time between Babson and Redlands. 
•    Watson and Ozlale have both won two straight singles matches.
