Offense Carries Baseball Past Franklin & Marshall, 18-8

Box Score FORT MYERS, Calif.—Senior Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) went 4-for-6 with two RBI and classmate Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) singled, doubled and drove in four runs to help Babson College defeat Franklin & Marshall College, 18-8, in non-conference baseball action on Tuesday morning at Terry Park.

With its second consecutive win, Babson improves to 3-5 on the year. Franklin & Marshall drops to 2-9 overall with the loss.

Junior Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and four runs scored, senior Jack Julian (Manchester, Mass.) singled, drove in two runs and scored twice, and sophomore Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.) singled and finished with two RBI for the Beavers. First-year Tristan Pearl (New Canaan, Conn.) earned his first career win with 2.2 innings of relief and sophomore Zander Teator (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) struck out the side in the ninth.

Sophomore Michael von Zuben (Warrington, Pa.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored  and classmate Matt Hollander (Short Hills, N.J.) doubled and knocked in a pair of runs to pace the Diplomats' 11-hit attack. Junior AJ Desautels (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) also went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored but the pitching gave up 14 hits and issued eight walks in addition to the defense making six errors in the loss.

The Green and White sent 11 men to the plate in the top of the second on the way to building a 6-0 lead. Savage and graduate student John Nowak (Pelham, N.Y.) recorded back-to-back singles to start the frame, Sadowsky followed with a walk and all three scored as the next three batters reached on errors. Basile plated Julian with an RBI ground out and graduate student Luke Tanner (Los Angeles, Calif.) followed with an RBI single to cap the rally.

Santos drew a bases-loaded walk as part of a two-run third inning and then followed up a two-run single by Julian with a two-out base hit to drive him in as part of a three-run fourth that extended the Beavers' advantage to 11-6. Pearl worked a pair of scoreless innings and Savage made it 14-6 with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth before Franklin & Marshall loaded the bases and used an RBI groundout by senior Bobby Falese (Medford, N.J.) and a balk to cut its deficit to 14-8.

Babson answered right back in the top of the seventh as Sadowsky was plunked, sophomore Ryan Hvozdovic (Hillsborough, N.J.) singled and both came around to score on a two-out, two-run double by Santos. Basile followed with a another two-out RBI knock, extending the margin to 17-8.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Scranton at 10 a.m. at Terry Park.
