Men’s Ice Hockey to Host Southern Maine for NEHC Series on Friday and Saturday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 37-9-2 all-time against Southern Maine in a series that dates back to 1995.
• The Beavers are 23-1-1 in the last 25 games against the Huskies over the last decade with the lone loss coming in the 2020 NEHC Tournament quarterfinals and the tie coming last season on November 3, both in Babson Park.
• The Green and White are 11-1-1 against USM inside the Babson Skating Center since 2012.

LAST MEETING
• Defenseman Colby Bailey '24 scored the tying goal at 17:24 of the third period and added the game winner 61 seconds into overtime as Babson rallied for a 4-3 victory over Southern Maine on January 13, 2024 at the USM Ice Arena in Gorham, Maine.
• Bailey finished the game with two goals and an assist, and juniors Ryan Murphy and Ian Driscoll tallied a goal and an assist for the Beavers. Classmate Brendan Kennedy recorded a pair of helpers, fellow junior Charlie Andriole added one assist, and sophomore Mason Rosado made 17 saves to earn the win in goal.
• Senior Jeff Pollara tallied a pair of goals for the Huskies and Curtis Judd '24 scored once in the setback. Sophomores Ethan McDuff and Marcus Torgner and fifth-year Austin Marini collected assists, and senior Kyle Penton made 31 saves but took the loss.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (2-3-0, 1-3-0 NEHC) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 7-6 victory over Salve Regina on Saturday, handing the Seahawks their first loss of the season.
• Sophomore Jimmy Fallon notched his first career hat trick and Kennedy added a pair of goals in the victory. Juniors Cam Joslin and Danny Cavanagh also scored for the Beavers, senior Wyatt George collected three assists, and junior Will Holland added two helpers as 12 different players recorded at least one point. Rosado made 28 saves to post the victory in goal.
• George (3-6-9) has at least one point in all five games this season and Murphy (1-4-5) has at least a point in four out of five. Fallon (3-0-3) and Kennedy (3-0-3) share the team goal scoring lead and Driscoll (2-1-3) is also a multi-goal scorer.
• Rosado (4.72 GAA, .829 sv. pct.) has started three games while junior Brett Cleaves (4.06 GAA, .884 sv. pct.) has gotten the nod in the other two.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• Southern Maine (1-2-0, 0-2-0 NEHC) will on the ice for the first time since a 3-2 overtime loss to Elmira back on November 9 in Gorham. The Huskies defeated No. 14 Endicott in overtime, 3-2, in their season opener on November 1.
• Sophomore Owen Drummey scored the first USM goal in the second period and Marini tied the game in the third period to force overtime. Penton made 28 saves in goal in his first start of the season but suffered the tough-luck loss.
• Drummey (1-1-2), junior John Hagan (0-2-2) and sophomore Matt Sullivan (0-2-2) share the team scoring lead through three games for the Huskies, who have been outscored 9-6. Marini was last year's leading scorer with 24 points on eight goals and 16 assists and Sullivan (11-6-17) was the leading goal scorer.
• Senior Mason Palmer (2.50 GAA, .932 sv. pct.) started the first two games for the Huskies before Penton (2.97 GAA, .903 sv. pct.) got the nod in game three.

BABSON VS. THE HUSKIES
• Andriole is Babson's current active leader in scoring against Southern Maine, having collected six assists in four outings vs. the Huskies. Driscoll has produced five points in four games with two goals and three assists, and Ryan Murphy has collected four points with two goals and two assists in four outings.
• Junior Nolan Dion (1-2-3, 4gms) and Kennedy (0-3-3, 3gms) each have three points, and George (2-0-2), junior Egan Schmitt (1-1-2) and junior Mike Stevens (1-1-2) have two points apiece.

HOME ICE ADVANTAGE
• The Beavers are 2-1 at home this season after finishing 8-2-2 at the Babson Skating Center in 2023-24 and 19-6-3 on home ice over the past two seasons.
• Babson is 60-18-7 at home since 2017-18 and 104-21-12 in Babson Park since February of 2013.

PRESEASON POLL
• The Beavers were picked to finish fourth when the NEHC preseason coaches' poll was released last month.
• Southern Maine was voted to wind up ninth after finishing seventh last winter and upsetting Norwich in the first round of the NEHC Tournament.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The 13 goals in last Saturday's win were the most in a Babson game since the Beavers defeated Johnson & Wales 11-2 back on February 8, 2020.
• The Beavers are 2-1 in one-goal games this season and are 8-3-2 since last season in games that were decided by one goal or ended in a tie.
• Babson is also 2-1 this season and 14-2-1 going back to last season when scoring at least three goals.
• The Green and White are 2-2 this season and 25-10-1 over the past three seasons when scoring at least one power play goal.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will place three consecutive non-conference road games against teams from the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC), beginning Tuesday at Tufts at 7 p.m.
