Eichenlaub Fires a 65 to Grab Solo Lead as No. 21 Men's Golf Sits in Third Place at the West Pines Collegiate

Beavers One Shot Back When Round Two Play Was Suspended Due to Darkness

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga.—Sophomore Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) sits atop the leaderboard after firing a second round 65 and No. 21 Babson College moved into third place just one stroke off the lead when play was suspended due to darkness late in round two at the West Pines Collegiate on Monday night.

The Beavers were seven shots back after posting a score of 10-over 294 in their morning round but currently stand just a shot behind co-leaders No. 8 Lynchburg and No. 4 Oglethorpe at 7-over for the tournament. Nine of the 20 teams still had competitors playing the final holes when the second round was halted.

Eichenlaub, who started the day with a 2-over 73, got off to a torrid start in round two with birdies on four of his first five holes and two more on Nos. 7 and 9 to make the turn at 6-under.  He made three consecutive bogeys on holes 11 through 13 but responded with his seventh birdie of the day on the par 3 15th hole and back-to-back birdies on Nos. 17 and 18 to post a career-best round of 6-under 65.

Eichenlaub, who owns the low round of the tournament, currently holds a two-stroke lead over Elliot Parker of Drew and Sam Karman of Oglethorpe.

Junior Tomas Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) is currently one of three players tied for fourth place at 1-under. He made three birdies and three bogeys on the way to posting an even-par 71 in the morning round and completed 17 holes at 1-under on Monday afternoon thanks to three birdies and two bogeys.

First-year Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) opened with a round of 2-over 73 and is currently 2-under through 17 holes in his second round, which has him tied for seventh place at even par. He slipped to 4-over for the tournament early in the second round before making three consecutive birdies to close his front nine. Vantipalli bogeyed the 10th hole but made two more birdies at Nos. 12 and 13, and another at the par 5 17th hole to move back into the top 10.

Senior John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) posted back-to-back rounds of 77 and is currently tied for 64th at 12-over, while sophomore Ian Rourke (Danvers, Mass.) opened with a 78 and currently sits at 7-over through 16 holes in round two.

Babson returns to the course to complete the remainder of round two and the final round at 8:30 a.m.
