Women's Volleyball Hosts Saint Michael's Friday, Wheaton and Roger Williams for Tri-Match on Saturday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson women's volleyball team returns to Staake Gymnasium to begin a four-match homestand against Division II Saint Michael's on Friday. 
•    After hosting the Purple Knights, the Beavers will face Wheaton and Roger Williams on Saturday. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Saint Michael's

•    First meeting 

vs. Wheaton
•    Babson is 22-32 all-time against the Lyons in a series that dates back to 1980. 
•    The Beavers have won six straight and 10 of their last 11 matches against Wheaton since 2013. 
•    The Green and White has won seven consecutive matches versus the Lyons inside Staake Gymnasium since 2009. 
•    Babson was a four-set (25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 25-15) winner at Wheaton on September 30 of last year and then defeated the Lyons in three sets (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) in last November's NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals. 

vs. Roger Williams
•    The Beavers are 11-9 all-time against the Hawks in a series that dates back to 1998.
•    Babson has won four straight and six of its last seven matches versus Roger Williams since 2015. 
•    The Green and White will host the Hawks for just the third time since 2008 on Saturday. 
•    The Beavers swept Roger Williams, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16, on September 16 of last season at UMass Dartmouth. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (12-1, 3-0 NEWMAC) has won eight consecutive matches after recording a four-set victory (23-25, 25-23, 33-31, 25-21) at Wellesley on Tuesday night. 
•    Junior Isabella Allen finished with a career-high 18 kills, senior Lauren Gips contributed 17 kills and eight blocks, sophomore Zoe Ackerman handed out 50 assists and junior Sophia Shaw added 23 digs for the Beavers, who remained perfect on the year when dropping the opening set. 
•    Allen is hitting .266 and averaging a team-high 3.17 kills per set, Gips (3.12 k/s, 1.02 blocks/set) ranks third in Division III with a .437 hitting percentage, and senior Lauren Griffin is contributing 2.37 kills per set. 
•    Ackerman (9.75 assists/set, 2.14 digs/set) ranks 29th in Division III in assists and is first on the team with 28 service aces, while Shaw leads the Green and White in both total digs (189) and digs per set (4.61). 

SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
•    The Purple Knights (4-8) snapped a two-match skid with a 3-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire last Saturday. 
•    Nora Schulze led all players with 13 kills, Dana Welch added 10 kills and Alexandra Baez Rentas registered 29 assists, 17 digs and two blocks for Saint Michael's, which hit a season-best .252 in the win. 
•    Schulze is averaging a team-high 2.78 kills, Grace Almeida (2.53 k/s) boasts a .353 hitting percentage and Dana Welch is contributing 2.37 kills. 
•    Baez Rentas is dishing out 7.87 assists per set and Kyla Farnan is averaging 4.20 digs per set to go along with a team-high 26 service aces. 

SCOUTING WHEATON
•    The Lyons (6-9, 0-3 NEWMAC) has dropped three straight matches and is coming off a 3-1 loss at Coast Guard on Tuesday night. 
•    Mary Caroline Mazzanti recorded 22 kills, Ajsa Orban contributed 38 assists and 17 digs, and Jackie Hochberg led all players with 35 digs for Wheaton, which hit just .085 and made a season-high 36 attack errors in the setback. 
•    Sydney Lyon (3.76 k/s, 2.40 d/s) owns a .247 hitting percentage and is second in the league with 36 aces, Celina Henn is averaging 2.24 kills and 2.05 digs per set, and Julia Wingler (1.61 k/s, 0.91 b/s) ranks sixth in the conference in blocks. 
•    Orban and Elena Timo have combined to hand out 9.03 assists per set, Hochberg is averaging a team-high 3.24 digs per set. 

SCOUTING ROGER WILLIAMS
•    The Hawks (8-9) have won three of their last four matches and are coming off a 3-2 victory over Suffolk on Tuesday night. 
•    Brianna Picchietti had 15 kills, Taylor Joyner added 13 kills and Ava Mattiucci handed out 41 assists and totaled 10 digs for Roger Williams, which recorded a season-best .302 hitting percentage in the win. 
•    Angela West (2.41 k/s, 0.97 b/s) boasts a .345 hitting percentage and has recorded 10 or more kills in five straight matches, Picchietti is averaging 2.35 kills per set and Joyner is contributing 1.86 kills. 
•    Mattiucci, who has a team-high 35 service aces, and Emma Bosco have combined to hand out 8.93 assists per set, while Marianna Hernandez leads the team in digs per set (4.80). 

ACKERMAN, SHAW SWEEP NEWMAC WEEKLY AWARDS
•    After leading the Beavers to victories over Emerson and Coast Guard to begin conference play, Ackerman was tabbed as the conference offensive player of the week and Shaw was selected as the league's defensive player of the week on Monday afternoon. 
•    Ackerman averaged 12.83 assists, 3.17 digs and 1.17 kills per set while helping the Green and White hit .251 in the wins. 
•    Shaw, who averaged 6.33 digs per set on the week, helped the Beavers hold Emerson to its lowest hitting percentage of the year (.082) and finished with 25 digs in the triumph over Coast Guard.

SENIOR MILESTONES
•    Senior Tatum Stelter, who is one of just five players in program history with at least 900 digs and 150 service aces, ranks fifth with 173 aces and is just four away from matching Brianna San Diego '15 for fourth place. 
•    Gips surpassed 500 kills and 700 points in Saturday's win at Coast Guard and is now just two blocks away from becoming the eighth player in school history with at least 500 kills and 200 blocks. 
•    Griffin, who is currently third on the team in both kills (2.37) and points per set (2.72), has already set new career highs with 102 kills and 117.0 points in just 13 matches. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Ackerman has finished with at least 30 assists and seven digs in four consecutive matches. 
•    Gips has recorded double-digit kills in five straight contests and has at least one block in 26 matches in a row. 
•    Allen has double-digit kills in four straight outings and at least nine kills in seven consecutive matches. 
•    Shaw has totaled 20 or more kills in back-to-back contests and has finished with at least nine digs in all 12 appearances this fall. 

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
•    Babson, which opens a four-match homestand on Friday night against Saint Michael's, is 9-1 inside Staake Gymnasium this season.
•    The Green and White is 29-3 at home since the start of the 2022 campaign and is 135-17, good for an .888 winning percentage, since head coach Eric Neely took over the program prior to the 2011 season. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers rank 16th in Division III in hitting percentage (.242) and 25th in opponents hitting percentage (.101). 
•    Babson has had a winning streak of at least eight matches in a row in six consecutive seasons going back to 2017. 
•    The Green and White is 9-0 on the year and 29-3 since the start of last season when recording more blocks than its opponents. 
•    The Beavers have won 27 consecutive matches when they finish with a hitting percentage of .200 or better.
