No. 11 Men's Soccer Hosts Springfield in Battle for First Place in the NEWMAC on Wednesday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 24-7-5 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 1994.
•    The Beavers are unbeaten in their last five contests versus the Pride (4-0-1) while posting five consecutive shutouts. 
•    The Green and White has won its last two home fixtures against Springfield and is unbeaten against the Pride on Hartwell-Rogers Field going back to 2000. 

LAST MEETING
•    Senior goalkeeper Walker White made one save as Babson was held to a 0-0 draw by the Pride on October 18, 2023, in Springfield, Mass.
•    Justin Stone M'24 and Sam Morgan M'24 both hit the woodwork and sophomore Will Lloyd had his bid to open the scoring cleared off the goal line with just over five minutes to play for the Beavers, who finished with a 19-7 edge in shots while attempting 13 of the 14 corner kicks in the match.
•    Noah Pote made five saves for Springfield. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 11 Babson (8-1-6, 3-0-1 NEWMAC) bounced back from its first loss of the season by defeating Wheaton, 2-0, on Saturday in Norton, Mass.
•    Graduate student Kento Abe opened the scoring in the sixth minute and classmate James Donaldson added an insurance marker in the 51st minute for the Beavers, who got two saves from White. 
•    Abe (5-3-13) has a point in three straight games is tied for third in the NEWMAC with three game-winning goals, Donaldson (3-5-11) is tied for third in the conference in assists and senior Liam Rhatigan (4-0-8) and sophomore Alexander Yablonovskiy (3-2-8) have combined to score six goals over the last eight matches. 
•    White has started all 15 matches and ranks first in the league in goals against average (0.62), is tied for first with six shutouts and ranks second in the NEWMAC with a .820 save percentage. 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (5-6-2, 3-1-1 NEWMAC) is unbeaten over its last three matches and is coming off a 2-1 win against WPI on Saturday. 
•    Connor Policarpio and Cole Sampson provided first-half goals, Parker Thornton assisted on both markers and Pote made four of his five saves in the second half for the Pride, which has already recorded its most conference wins since 2021. 
•    Policarpio (7-2-16) is third in the league in scoring and has scored five times in four NEWMAC matches, Thornton (2-4-8) has two goals and two assists over the last two games, and Sampson (2-3-7) has a point in three consecutive outings. 
•    Pote is 4-4-2 with a 1.50 goals against average and a .762 save percentage to go along with one shutout in 10 starts. 

WHITE CLAIMS WEEKLY RECOGNITION
•    After keeping his sixth clean sheet of the year in Saturday's win at Wheaton, White was tabbed as the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    He is now fifth in Babson history with 24 career shutouts and owns a 0.71 goals against average and a .841 save percentage to go along with a 33-8-16 record in 58 career games. 

POINTS AT A PREMIUM
•    With four match dates left in the regular season, the winner of Wednesday's clash will take over first place in the NEWMAC standings as Babson and Springfield both enter sitting on 10 points. 
•    Coast Guard, which will visit Babson Park on November 2, is third with nine points, while Salve Regina and Saturday's opponent MIT are tied for fourth place with seven points. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Babson has won three straight conference matches and is unbeaten over its last 26 contests (21-0-5) dating back to October 2022. 
•    The Green and White is 6-0-2 at home this fall and enters Wednesday's fixture riding a 13-game unbeaten streak at Hartwell-Rogers Field. 
•    The Beavers have posted four consecutive shutouts at home going back to October 5. 
•    After being blanked in two of its first three games to begin the season, Babson has produced at least one goal in 12 straight matches. 

RANKED HIGH IN THE NPI
•    Babson is ranked ninth among for the second week in a row in the Division III NCAA Power Index (NPI), which is used to select teams for the NCAA Tournament. 
•    The Beavers are the top-ranked team in the NEWMAC and Region II by more than three points, and are one of six programs from New England ranked among the top nine. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson is 8-0-6 this season 31-1-15 over the last three seasons when conceding one goal or fewer. 
•    The Beavers are 8-0-3 on the year when scoring the opening goal of the match. 
•    The Green and White is 15-1-6 in the month of October since 2022. 
•    Babson has outscored its first four NEWMAC foes 13-1.
