John Baldwin (Little Compton, R.I.) and first-year
Aman Vantipalli (Alpharetta, Ga.) posted rounds of 1-under 70 and the 16th-ranked Babson College men's golf team sits in 19th place after 36 holes at the Golfweek October Classic at Raven Golf Club.
The Beavers shot 11-over 295 in Monday's second round and sits at 18-over 586 through 36 holes. No. 6 Washington & Lee is at 26-under 542 and holds a 10-stroke lead over No. 21 Sewanee (552). No. 7 Huntingdon (560), No. 13 LeTourneau (562) and No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan (567) are all under par entering Tuesday's final round.
Vantipalli made four birdies and three bogeys on the way to finishing under par for the second time this fall. With rounds of 73-70, he is tied for 30th position at 1-over through 36 holes.
Baldwin, who opened with a 78 on Sunday, put together the best round of his season with five birdies and four bogeys in Monday's second round. He made back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16 and 17 to get to 2-under for the day and carded two more on his inward nine (Nos. 1 and 5) to get back to 6-over for the tournament.
Sophomore
Evan Eichenlaub (Bethlehem, Pa.) sits at 5-over in a tie for 65th position through two rounds after shooting a 7-over 78 on Monday. Classmate
Jack Berry (Western Springs, Ill.) followed up his first round 72 with a 77 and is tied for 85th at 7-over, while junior
Tomas Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) struggled to an 81 on Monday and is 16-over through 36 holes.
Babson begins final round play at 9:20 ET time on Tuesday at Raven Golf Club.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The Beavers are making their second consecutive appearance at the Golfweek October Classic after tying for 11th place last season and own a 293.40 team scoring average in five rounds at the Raven Golf Club.
• The tournament features eight of the top-10 and 11 of the top-15 programs in the latest Golfweek Bushnell Division III poll.
• The second round scoring average was 72.89 and 32 of 120 players finished under par on the day.
• Eichenlaub is tied for eighth in par-5 scoring (3-under) through two rounds.
