Women's Basketball Takes On Emerson in NEWMAC Opener on Saturday in Boston

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 14-1 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to 2014. 
•    The Beavers have won four straight against the Lions going back to 2020. 
•    All but one of Babson's victories against Emerson have come by double-digits. 

LAST MEETING
•    Sophomore Chloe Perreault scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, junior Camille Minor finished with career highs of 13 points and six rebounds and classmate Camilla Silk added 10 points as the Beavers routed Emerson, 91-57, on February 1, 2023, in Babson Park. 
•    Megan Bauman '23 dished out 11 assists and 13 players made at least one field goal for Babson, which shot 50.7 percent in the win. 
•    Olivia Deslauriers scored 10 points and Devin Hill added eight points to pace the Lions. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (6-8, 0-0 NEWMAC) has dropped two of its last three games and is coming off a 58-48 defeat at Springfield on Wednesday night. 
•    First-year Samantha Reale produced 11 points, six rebounds and three steals and sophomore Allessia Carlo scored 10 points in her first career start for the Beavers, who played the Pride even over the final three quarters. 
•    Senior Kelly Walsh (18.0 pts, 4.6 reb, 4.2 ast, 2.3 stl), who has missed five straight games, has scored 20 or more points in five of her last six outings, junior Katelyn Mollica (13.0 pts, 3.4 reb, 2.0 ast) is shooting 43.3 percent from beyond the arc and Reale is contributing 7.9 points and 3.8 rebounds. 
•    The Green and White ranks 57th in Division III allowing 54.8 points per game and are holding its foes to just 34 percent shooting. 

SCOUTING THE LIONS
•    Emerson (9-5, 0-0 NEWMAC) has won five straight games and is coming off a 76-58 victory at Elms on Monday. 
•    Bri Frongillo scored 20 points, Deslauriers finished with 14 points and eight assists and Charlotte Levison posted a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Lions, who shot 50.8 percent. 
•    Frongillo (18.6 pts, 4.4 ast) ranks first in the league in scoring and fourth in assists, Ella Bushee (15.1 pts, 6.4 reb) is shooting 57.7 percent from the floor and Deslauriers (11.6 pts, 3.4 ast, 3.1 reb) is tied for third in the conference with 34 steals. 
•    Emerson is averaging 71.6 points on 44.6 percent shooting but also is committing 20.7 turnovers per game. 

TURNING UP THE D
•    Babson, which ranks 27th nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency according to D3 Datacast, has limited its last five opponents to 0.77 points per possession on 32.1 percent shooting. 
•    The Beavers are giving up just 51.8 points per game during this stretch have not allowed an opponent to shoot better than 38.6 percent since returning from break on December 29.

REVISITING THE PRESEASON POLL
•    After finishing second in the regular season standings and making a run to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight last winter, Babson was picked to finish third in the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll behind defending champions Smith and second-place MIT back in October. 
•    The Beavers have finished first or second in conference play in seven consecutive seasons and have not finished outside the top three since 2014, when they placed fifth.
•    Emerson was picked to finish seventh in the conference poll. 

OPENING STATEMENT
•    The Beavers have won their league opener 17 times in 18 tries going back to the 2004-05 campaign, a run which includes last year's 70-42 victory over Clark on January 18. 
•    The Green and White has won eight consecutive NEWMAC openers since suffering a 71-65 loss to Coast Guard to start the 2013-14 campaign. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Mollica ranks fourth in program history with 97 career three-pointers and enters the weekend ranked 14th in Division III in triples per game (3.00). 
•    Reale has scored in double figures three times over the last five games and is averaging 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.4 steals since being inserted into the starting lineup up on December 29. 
•    Junior Emily Flynn played a season-high 17 minutes in Wednesday's loss at Springfield scoring four points and grabbing six rebounds. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 26-3 in the regular season against NEWMAC foes going back to 2020.
•    Babson is 6-2 this winter when scoring at least 60 points. 
•    The Green and White is 6-1 when leading after the first quarter and 5-0 when leading at halftime this year.
•    The Beavers are 5-1 this season when shooting at least 40 percent.
