Gonzalez and Watson Advance to Semifinals in B Singles Bracket

Jonah Wilson (Gilbert, Ariz.) won his first match of the day in the round of 16 in the championship singles draw on Saturday to lead the Babson College men's tennis team on the second day of competition at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships at Bowdoin College.
Seeded fourth in the top singles bracket, Wilson defeated Lachie MacIntosh of Tufts in straight sets in the round of 16 (6-2, 6-4), but was eliminated with a three-set defeat in the quarterfinals to Dylan Walters of Brandeis, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Jose Gonzalez (Asheville, N.C.) and graduate student
Andrew Watson (Charlottesville, Va.) both captured a pair of victories Saturday to advance to the semifinals in the B singles bracket. Gonzalez got past Corey Marley of Tufts in the round of 16, 2-6, 6-2, (10-3), and knocked off Nikesh Desai of Bates, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals. Watson took down Thehan Wijemanne of Middlebury in the round of 16, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, before outlasting Harry Portnoy of Wesleyan in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 4-6, (10-8).
Gonzalez will face Rex Harrison of Amherst in one semifinal on Sunday, and Watson will battle Harry Collomb of Wesleyan in the other.
