Women's Volleyball Returns Home to Face Coast Guard and Colby on Saturday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    After playing its last eight matches on the road, the Babson women's volleyball team returns home for the first time since September 1 with a pair of contests on Saturday. 
•    The Beavers will take on Coast Guard in a NEWMAC tilt at 11 a.m. before facing non-conference foe Colby at 3 p.m. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Coast Guard

•    Babson is 19-23 all-time against Coast Guard in a series that dates back to 1981.
•    The Beavers have dominated the series over the last decade winning 13 straight matches and 14 of their last 15 outings against the Bears. 
•    The Green and White has won its last nine matches against Coast Guard inside Staake Gymnasium, a streak that stretches back to 2015. 

vs. Colby
•    Babson is 5-1 all-time against the Mules in a series that goes back to 2001. 
•    The Beavers have won three straight in the series, which includes a pair of three-set victories when they last met back in 2016. 
•    Saturday's match will be the first played between the teams in Babson Park. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (9-1, 1-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to six by rallying for a 3-2 victory at Emerson in its conference opener on Tuesday night. 
•    First-year Allison Molendyk led all players with 21 kills, senior Erin Gray had 12 kills and four blocks and first-year Zoe Ackerman dished out 45 assists for the Beavers, who never trailed in the decisive fifth set. 
•    Molendyk (3.52 kills/set) is hitting .266, Gray is averaging 2.88 kills per set to go along with a .230 hitting percentage and senior Lulu McShane (2.59 k/s) is hitting at a .295 clip, which ranks seventh in the conference. 
•    Ackerman is dishing out 9.16 assists per set over the last five matches, sophomore Roz Cabuena is averaging a team-high 3.76 digs per set and junior Tatum Stelter leads the Green and White in both digs (103) and service aces (22).

SCOUTING THE BEARS
•    Coast Guard (10-2, 0-1 NEWMAC) had its seven-match winning streak stopped on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to No. 16 MIT. 
•    Senior Sophia Galdamez had nine kills, sophomore Sarah Somer added eight kills and four blocks and senior Maeve Duffin finished with 23 assists and 10 digs for the Bears, who hit just .062 in the loss. 
•    Galdamez is averaging a team-high 3.10 kills per set, junior Shannon Shaw (2.88 k/s) is hitting .283 and sophomore Allie Wildsmith is contributing 2.53 kills per set and hitting a .315 clip. 
•    Duffin ranks second in the NEWMAC in assists per set (9.21) and junior Kaela France is averaging a conference-best 5.45 digs per set. 

SCOUTING THE MULES
•    Colby (5-2) has won three straight matches and is coming off a three-set sweep of Bates on Wednesday. 
•    First-year Azariah Love recorded eight kills, sophomore LJ Grant finished with six kills and 10 digs and fellow sophomore Sydney Sick and first-year Allison Rodriguez both handed out 18 assists for the Mules, who hit .263 as a team in the victory.
•    Grant is averaging 2.50 kills and 2.82 digs per set, first-year  Brady Moseley is contributing 1.95 kills per set and Love is chipping in with 1.78 digs per set to lead a balanced attack. 
•    Rodriguez and Sick have combined to dole out 9.23 assists per set and first-year Reanna Yadao leads the defense in both digs (99) and digs per set (4.50). 

WELCOME HOME
•    After playing eight straight matches away from home between September 8-19, the Beavers will play the first of four straight contests inside Staake Gymnasium on Saturday. 
•    Babson has been dominant at home under 13th-year head coach Eric Neely, winning 88 percent of its matches (117-16) since 2011. 
•    The Green and White opened the year with home-court victories over Framingham State and Dean and have won 65 of their last 72 matches inside Staake Gymnasium. 

MOLENDYK EARNS CONFERENCE HONOR
•    After totaling 59 kills and averaging 4.21 kills per set while hitting .323 in a 4-0 week for the Beavers, Molendyk was tabbed as the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. 
•    In addition to her season-high 24 kills in the five-set win over UMass Dartmouth, she had 12 in a three-set sweep of Roger Williams on Friday and 16 in a 3-0 win over UMass Boston in Saturday's first match.

COMING THROUGH IN THE CLUTCH
•    The Green and White totaled 11 kills against just one error and hit .476 in the fifth set at Emerson on Tuesday night. 
•    Molendyk provided eight of her match-high 21 kills in the final stanza to help the Beavers open league play with a victory for the 10th consecutive season. 

GOING THE DISTANCE
•    Babson's 3-2 wins over UMass Dartmouth and Emerson marks the first time since 2008 that it has recorded five-set victories in consecutive outings. 
•    That season the Beavers defeated both UMass Dartmouth and Roger Williams 3-2 on September 27. 
•    The last time the Green and White had three straight matches decided in five sets came in the final three contests of the 2021 campaign. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers rank 23rd in Division III in kills per set (13.00) and are 40th nationally with a .225 hitting percentage. 
•    Going back to 2019, Babson is 45-4 in the month of September. 
•    The Green and White is 6-0 this season when hitting at least .200. 
•    The Beavers are 27-0 going back to the start of last year when winning the opening set.
