BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College head men's ice hockey coach
Jamie Rice '90 announced the hiring of
Chris Hall as the program's new full-time assistant coach on Friday.
With over a decade of experience in the collegiate ranks, Hall comes to Babson after spending the last five seasons as an assistant women's ice hockey coach at Merrimack College. The Warriors set a school-record for wins in his first season with the program in 2018-19, claimed their first Hockey East Tournament victory by defeating New Hampshire in 2022 and matched the feat with another opening-round triumph over Boston University in the 2023 league tournament.
"We are excited to add Chris to our program," commented Rice. "He has a history of success in both recruiting and coaching at our level. He also has experience under two of the most respected and successful coaches in Division I in Jeff Jackson at Notre Dame and Toot Cahoon at UMass, which will bring great value to our program."
Prior to his time at Merrimack, Hall served as an assistant men's ice hockey coach at Colby College from 2012-18. He served as the recruiting coordinator and worked primarily with the defense while helping the Mules record their best conference finish in a decade in 2016-17 before helping the program to one of the best seasons in its history in 2017-18. Colby captured its first NESCAC Tournament championship and won road games against the University of New England and Geneseo to advance to its first Division III Frozen Four.
Under Hall's guidance, the Mules' led the conference in defensemen scoring in 2015-16 while ranking third on the penalty kill, and his goaltenders finished the 2017-18 ranked third nationally in save percentage.
"I am extremely honored and grateful to join Coach Rice behind the bench at Babson," said Hall. "On and off the ice, Babson's reputation reverberates respect and I am thrilled to represent the College and the hockey program. Connecting with our student-athletes has made it clear to me that the people are what make Babson great and I am excited to help them continue to grow and develop. The opportunity to work with Coach Rice and help continue the proud legacy of Babson hockey is a truly special one and I'm fired up to get to work!"
A 2009 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in history, Hall served as a student assistant for the Fighting Irish from 2005-10. He spent the 2010-11 campaign as a volunteer assistant coach for the Amherst College men's ice hockey program and was an assistant coach at the University of Massachusetts in 2011-12.
Hall also earned his professional teacher's license from Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in 2010.
