SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 17-27 all-time against Brandeis in a series that dates back to 1976.
• Despite being separated by less than six miles, the Beavers and Judges met for the first time since 2010 last March.
• Five of the last six meetings between the teams have been decided by a single run dating back to 2006.
LAST MEETING
• Nick Heafey drove in the game-winning run with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 12th inning as Brandeis defeated Babson, 6-5, on March 5, 2022, in Northborough, Mass.
• Dan Frey went 4-for-6 with a triple and two runs scored and Victor Oppenheimer singled, doubled and drove in three runs for the Judges, who trailed 5-0 going to the bottom of the sixth.
• Senior Jack Pirkl went 3-for-6, sophomore Justin Guest hit a solo homer and Sean Burychka '22 singled three times and drove in two runs for the Beavers, who stranded 15 runners on base in the loss.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (11-8) has won nine of it last 10 games and picked up its third consecutive win by defeating Coast Guard, 2-1, on Tuesday.
• Junior Tristen Spalter struck out a career-high 10 batters and senior Michael O'Brien hit a one-out double in the bottom of the ninth to score classmate Michael Cook to keep the Beavers unbeaten at home.
• First-year Ryan Hvozdovic is batting .383 with two doubles, two home runs, 12 RBI and 15 runs scored, junior Brant Savage is batting .366 with three doubles, six homers and 21 runs batted in, and Cook boasts a .357 average to go along with three extra-base hits and 15 RBI.
• Senior Tim Noone (2-1, 0.99 ERA) has 43 strikeouts against just four walks in 36.1 innings, classmate Anthony St. John is 3-0 with a 2.45 ERA and has gone at least six innings in all three starts, and senior Stephen McLendon is 2-0 with one save and a 3.86 earned run average in five appearances.
SCOUTING THE JUDGES
• Brandeis (5-12) dropped three of four games at NYU and concluded the series with a 21-0 seven-inning setback in game two of last Sunday's doubleheader.
• Brian King went 2-for-4 and Steven Simon and CJ Dunston both singled and walked for the Judges, who lost a pair of one-run games on Friday before beating the Violets 11-9 in Sunday's opener.
• Simon is batting .388 with five extra-base hits and seven runs batted in, King is hitting .290 with four extra-base hits, six RBI and 13 runs scored, and Alex Kim owns a .271 average to go along with eight doubles, a triple and six runs batted in.
• Sean Decker-Jacoby (0-2, 4.34 ERA) has recorded 16 strikeouts in 18.2 innings, Asher Kaplan (3-1, 4.97 ERA) has fanned 20 while issuing just five walks in 25.1 innings of work and Jakob Newman (0-1) has one save and 18 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of relief.
LEADERS OF THE PACK
• The Beavers rank second in Division III in walks allowed per nine innings (1.78) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.07), are third in WHIP (1.14) and enter week ranked seventh with a .979 fielding percentage.
• Individually, Noone leads all Division III pitchers in WHIP (0.61), ranks 10th in hits allowed per nine innings (4.46), 14th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.75) and 17th in earned run average (0.99).
• St. John ranks 14th in walks per nine innings (0.70) and is 26th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.50).
SAVAGE MATCHES DIVISION III SAC FLY RECORD
• Despite seeing his 14-game hit streak come to an end, Savage finished Monday's game with three sacrifice flies to match the Division III record.
• He joins Jason Lariviere (Southern Maine, 1995), Shane Meyer (Albright, 1995) and Tim Pavlic (Frostburg State, 1996) as the only players to achieve the feat.
STREAKING BEAVERS
• Santos has reached base in 19 consecutive games, while Hvozdovic (6) and first-year Chris Basile (5) both extended their hitting streaks with a pair of knocks apiece in Tuesday's win over Coast Guard
SETTLING IN UP NORTH
• In four starts since March 21, O'Brien is batting .462 (6-for-13) with two doubles, five walks and six RBI.
• Savage is hitting .433 (13-for-30) in eight games since returning from Florida and leads the Green and White with three home runs and 13 runs batted in.
• Santos boasts a .538 on-base percentage and is batting .379 with three extra-base hits, seven stolen bases and 11 runs scored in eight starts.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• In eight games since returning from its spring break trip to Florida, the Babson pitching staff has issued just 10 walks and owns a 2.38 earned run average.
• Babson has walked at least three times in 15 straight games.
• The Beavers are 8-1 when recording 10 or more hits and 10-2 when finishing with at least two extra-base hits this spring.
• The Green and White is 9-1 on the season when leading after seven innings.
