Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College concluded its regular season by dropping both ends of a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader to No. 11/14 Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon at Govoni Field.

The Beavers (22-16, 10-7 NEWMAC) suffered a 2-1 loss in the opener and dropped game two to the Lyons (32-5, 16-1 NEWMAC) 11-1 in seven innings.

Game 1: Wheaton 2, Babson 1
Senior Michael Cook (Whitman, Mass.) was 2-for-2 with a double and junior Ike Kiely (Falmouth, Maine) singled twice, walked once and scored a run for the Beavers. Senior Anthony St. John (Hopewell, N.J.) allowed just two runs and scattered 10 hits in a complete-game effort and is now 5-2 on the year.

Junior Tommy Ambrosone (Hopkinton, Mass.) and senior Mike Maher (Jefferson, Mass.) both had three hits, while classmate Cavan Brady (Sheffield, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with a double for the Lyons. Fellow senior Zach Clesas (Johnston, R.I.) improved to 6-1 after allowing one run on six hits over 8.0 innings and classmate Zach Nichols (Chicopee, Mass.) struck out two in the ninth to record his fifth save.

Ambrosone led off the top of the third with a single and later scored on senior Nick Croteau's (Cumberland, R.I.) one-out base hit to left to give Wheaton a 1-0 lead. The Green and White left runners on base in both the second and third innings before pulling even in the fourth when sophomore Justin Guest (West Windsor, N.J.) lined a one-out single to center.

St. John retired 13 of 14 hitters through the middle innings allowing before Ambrosone reached with a two-out single to center in the seventh. He advanced to third when St. John's pickoff attempt at first got away and scored the go-ahead run when junior AJ Guindon (Coventry, R.I.) beat out an infield single to the left side.

Clesas retired the final nine batters he faced before giving way to Nichols to start the ninth. Cook led off with a sharp single to left and Kiely walked to put runners on first and second but Nichols escaped the threat getting a hard line out to left followed by back-to-back strikeouts.

Game 2: Wheaton 11, Babson 1 (7 inn.)
Senior Patrick Manning (Weymouth, Mass.) had an RBI double, first-year Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.) singled and graduate student Ryan Noone (Belmont, Mass.) scored a run for the Beavers.

Sophomore Timmy Wagner (Hingham, Mass.) hit a grand slam, Brady and sophomore Kevin Matos (Lawrence, Mass.) both homered and drove in two runs and first-year Nick Giangregorio (Belmont, Mass.) doubled twice and knocked in a pair of runs to lead the Lyons. Junior Liam Goldthwaite (Braintree, Mass.) struck out seven and fired a complete-game two-hitter to up his mark to 6-1 on the year with the win.

Noone reached on a two-out error and scored on Manning's double down the left field line to make it 1-1 in the bottom of the second before Wheaton busted the game open with a six-run third. Brady had an RBI single and Matos drove in Croteau with a sacrifice fly before Wagner cleared the bases with a grand slam to give the visitors a 7-1 lead.

Matos homered in the fifth and Brady led off the seventh with a solo shot to left to spark a three-run rally that extended the Lyons' advantage to 11-1. Goldthwaite retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced following the double to Manning, giving up only a walk to first-year Cole Collins (Libertyville, Ill.) to start the bottom of the seventh.
