SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 7-32 all-time against Tufts in a series that dates back to the 1977 campaign.
• The Beavers and Jumbos met every season from 1977-2009 with the exception of 1990 but Wednesday's matchup will be the first in 14 years between the programs.
LAST MEETING
• Babson defeated Tufts 5-2 in the opener and Jumbos returned the favor with an 11-4 win in game two as the teams split a doubleheader on May 3, 2009, in Medford, Mass.
• Andrew Aizenstadt '11 struck out eight and gave up just one earned run over 7.0 innings and Travis Jonasson '12 drove in three runs in the opener, while Sean Cleary '12 came through with a two-run single in the nightcap for the Beavers.
• David Orlowitz and David LeResche combined to drive in five runs and were two of five players to finish with two hits in game two for Tufts.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (18-10) has won 10 of its last 12 games after rallying for a 7-6 12-inning victory at Clark on Tuesday.
• Junior Brant Savage hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and senior Michael Cook broke a 6-6 deadlock with a solo shot in the top of the 12th for the Beavers, who got 4.2 innings of shutout relief from seniors Tim Person and Tim Noone.
• Cook is batting .367 with two doubles, two triples, two homers and 25 runs batted in, first-year Ryan Hvozdovic is hitting .364 with six extra-base hits, 23 runs batted in and 22 runs scored, and Savage boasts a .351 average to go along with six doubles, eight home runs 33 RBI and 27 runs scored on the year.
• Senior Adam Smith is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in three appearances, sophomore Luke McClintock (0-0) owns a 3.52 earned run average in seven relief appearances and senior Stephen McLendon is 2-0 with one save and 16 strikeouts in 16.2 innings pitched this spring.
SCOUTING THE JUMBOS
• Tufts (18-6) has now won 12 of its last 13 games after defeating Johnson & Wales, 11-5, for its sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday night.
• Connor Flavin and Clay Sowell both hit three-run homers and Silas Reed struck out 12 in 7.0 innings of relief for the Jumbos, who improved to 11-0 on the year at home.
• Henry Fleckner is batting .284 with nine extra-base hits, 17 stolen bases, 18 RBI and 20 runs scored, Patrick Solomon is hitting .271 with seven extra-base hits, 20 stolen bases and 19 runs scored, and Jimmy Evans owns a .269 average to go along with four doubles, three homers and 20 runs batted in.
• Brendan McFall is 1-0 with five saves, a 1.13 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 16.0 innings, Aidan Tucker is 2-0 with a 1.93 earned run average in 9.1 innings and Lucas Gustavson is 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 9.2 innings of work on the year.
LEADING OFF
• Junior Tanner Santos has reached base safely in 27 of the last 28 games and ranks first in the NEWMAC in both walks (27) and stolen bases (16).
• He is also fifth in the conference with 29 runs scored and ranks eighth in the league with a .475 on-base percentage.
BEAVER BITES
• First-year Hvozdovic (13), Savage (12), Cook (10) and Santos (10) lead the Green and White in multi-hit games and combined to go 9-for-22 with six RBI and four runs scored in Tuesday's win over Clark.
• First-year Chris Basile has at least one hit in 13 of his last 14 starts going back to March 30.
• Person has not allowed a run in 11.1 innings over his last eight relief appearances and has recorded 14 strikeouts while allowing just four hits over this stretch.
• Junior Ike Kiely is 5-for-12 (.417) with a double, three walks, three RBI and six runs scored over his last three starts.
PITCHING AND DEFENSE
• The Beavers enter the week ranked first in Division III in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.04) and walks allowed per nine innings (1.82), are fourth in WHIP (1.22), 28th in fielding percentage (.970) and 39th in team ERA (4.17).
FAMILIAR SETTING FOR FORMER JUMBO
• Current Babson graduate student Ryan Noone will see plenty of familiar faces in his return to Medford on Wednesday night.
• Noone, who graduated from Tufts last May, appeared in 49 games for the Jumbos from 2019-22 and batted .319 with six doubles, four home runs and 30 runs batted in.
• He is hitting .291 with seven doubles, three homers and 22 runs batted in this year while playing for his uncle, Babson head coach Matt Noone, and alongside his cousin, senior Tim Noone.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 16-1 this season and 35-4 over the last two years when scoring six or more runs.
• Babson is 14-3 this spring when outhitting its opponents.
• The Green and White is 33-2 since the start of the 2022 campaign when leading after seven innings.
• The Beavers, who walked nine times in Tuesday's win at Clark, have at least one walk in 31 straight games going back to last season.
