Baseball Takes Series Opener at Emerson, 16-2

Box Score

BROCKTON, Mass.— Junior Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) and graduate student Ryan Noone (Belmont, Mass.) both homered and knocked in four runs apiece to pace a 14-hit attack as Babson College unloaded on Emerson College, 16-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball action Friday afternoon at Campanelli Stadium.

With the win, Babson won for the eighth time in its last nine outings to improve to 16-9 overall and 5-2 in the NEWMAC, while Emerson lost its second in a row and fell to 14-13 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Savage went 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored and Noone was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs scored. Senior Michael Cook (Whitman, Mass.) and first-years Ryan Hvozdovic (Hillsborough, N.J.) and first-year Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.) all singled and knocked in two runs, and junior Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) reached base three times on a single and two walks and scored three runs as all nine hitters in the starting line-up had at least one hit.

Senior Tim Noone (Needham, Mass.) improved to 4-1 on the mound, going 6.1 innings and allowing two runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out four. Junior Jimmy Weick (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) got the final two outs to close out the win.

Junior Ty Bourne (Tappan, N.Y.) went 3-for-3 with a double and senior Thai Morgan (Waldwick, N.J.) went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Lions. Grad student Quinton Copeland (Houston, Texas) also singled and knocked in a run in the setback. Junior Chris Lowe (Chatham, N.J.) pitched four innings for the hosts and took the loss.

The Beavers jumped on top 5-0 with three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. Ryan Noone started things with an RBI single to right in the first and Hvozdovic added a two-run knock through the right side, and Savage delivered a two-run single to left in the second frame.

After Emerson got on the board in the bottom of the second on Morgan's RBI single to left, the Beavers exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth. Two runs came home on a wild pitch and an infield ground out before Savage produced an RBI single to left and Noone capped the rally with a three-run blast to left, his third of the season.

Copeland gave Emerson its second run with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth but Babson poured it on with four more in the top of the fifth. Basile delivered an RBI hit, Santos scored on the back end of a double steal, and Cook brought home two runs with a single down the left field line.

Savage rounded out the scoring in the seventh inning with a solo shot to left for his seventh of the season, second-most in the NEWMAC. The game was ended after seven innings due to the 10-run rule.

The two teams will play again on Saturday in a doubleheader at Govoni Field in Babson Park, beginning at 12 p.m.
