• Cam Seymour went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run and five RBI and Arlo Pike hit a three-run homer in the third inning to help Southern Maine defeat Babson, 9-5, on April 24, 2022, in Gorham, Maine.
• Tom Vesosky finished 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs scored and put the Huskies ahead for good with an RBI single in the fourth.
• Senior Patrick Manning homered as part of a two-hit day, junior Tanner Santos went 2-for-4 with a run scored and classmate Luca Rubin doubled and drove in a pair of runs for the Beavers, who erased a 4-0 deficit with a four-run fourth inning rally.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (14-9) had its six-game winning streak snapped in a 7-1 loss at Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon.
• Senior Michael Cook homered in the fourth inning, Rubin finished with a pair of singles and graduate student Jack Pirkl tripled for the Beavers, who were limited to six hits in the loss.
• First-year Ryan Hvozdovic is batting .415 with five extra-base hits, 18 RBI And 19 runs scored, junior Brant Savage owns a .344 average to go along with five doubles, six homers and 25 runs batted in, and Cook is hitting .337 with five extra-base hits, 18 RBI and 13 runs scored.
• Senior Adam Smith is 1-0 with a 1.69 ERA in two appearances this spring, first-year Connor Doan has gone 1-1 with a 5.40 ERA over 16.2 innings and senior Tim Person (0-2) has allowed just one hit and one unearned run over his last 6.1 innings out of the bullpen.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
• Southern Maine (9-12) extended its winning streak to seven with a 6-3 victory over Colby on Wednesday.
• Kyle Douin doubled and knocked in two runs, Jason Komulainen went 2-for-3 with an RBI triple and two runs scored and Dylan Miner struck out six over 5.0 innings to earn his first win for the Huskies, who have not lost since March 29.
• Douin is batting .341 with 10 extra-base hits, 20 RBI and 15 runs scored, Brogan Searle-Belanger is hitting .326 with a double, a triple and 12 runs batted in, and Janek Luksza owns a .265 average to go along with three doubles, 10 RBI and 15 runs scored this spring.
• Bryce Afthim is 2-2 with a 3.41 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 31.2 innings, Lucas Francis is 0-1 in 23.1 innings over 13 relief appearances and Kyle Skolfield has gone 1-2 with a 6.48 earned run average in 16.2 innings of work this spring.
PITCHING PROWESS
• The Beavers enter the week ranked first in Division III in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.71), WHIP (1.12) and walks allowed per nine innings (1.57), and are also 26th in team ERA (3.73) and 38th in hits allowed per nine innings (8.48).
• Individually, senior Tim Noone ranks third nationally in WHIP (0.62), 12th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (10.60) and 18th in ERA (1.25), while classmate Anthony St. John is eighth in walks per nine innings (0.55) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (11.00).
• Junior Tristen Spalter also ranks 19th in walks per nine innings (0.89) and 23rd in strikeout-to-walk ratio (8.25).
HVOZDOVIC, SPALTER SWEEP NEWMAC WEEKLY HONORS
• Hvozdovic batted .524 (11-for-21) with one double, seven RBI and six runs scored on the way to earning conference player of the week honors, while Spalter was selected as the league's pitcher of the week following his 10-strikeout performance against Coast Guard last Tuesday.
BEAVER BITES
• Hvozdovic extended his hitting streak to 10 games with an eight-inning single in Tuesday's loss at Coast Guard.
• Cook, who hit his first home run of the season on Tuesday, has reached base in seven consecutive games.
• Pirkl, who is riding a three-game hitting streak, recorded his first career triple on Tuesday at Coast Guard.
• Santos, who had reached base safely in 22 consecutive games going back to May of last season, had his streak broken after going 0-for-4 in Tuesday's loss at Coast Guard.
