Baseball Downs No. 5/3 Trinity (Texas) in Series Finale, 11-6

Box Score

SAN ANTONIO, Texas—Graduate student Ryan Noone (Belmont, Mass.) and senior Michael Cook (Whitman, Mass.) combined to drive in eight runs as visiting Babson College defeated No. 5/3 Trinity University, 11-6, in non-conference baseball action on Sunday afternoon at the Trinity Baseball Complex.

With the win, Babson improves to 1-2 on the year while Trinity is now 5-4 overall.

Noone homered and doubled as part of a three-hit day and drove in five runs, while Cook went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI to pace the Beavers' 13-hit attack. Senior Michael O'Brien (Medford, Mass.) and first-year Ryan Hvozdovic (Hillsborough, N.J.) both went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, junior Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) singled twice and scored a pair of runs and senior Jackson Kelly (Wenonah, N.J.) scored three times in support of classmate Stephen McLendon (Nashua, N.H.), who won his first career start.

McClendon allowed four runs on four hits while striking out four over 6.1 innings for the Green and White. Senior Anthony St. John (Hopewell, N.J.) fanned two in 2.2 innings of relief in the victory.

Sophomore Brandon Nelson (Missouri City, Texas) homered twice and drove in three runs for the Tigers, who got hits from six different players. Fellow sophomore Jackson Teer (San Antonio, Texas) gave up three earned runs over 4.0 innings and shouldered the loss to drop to 2-1 on the season.

Nelson erased a 1-0 deficit with a two-run blast with two out in the bottom of the first before Babson answered with a five-run second to go in front for good. O'Brien raced home with two outs on Trinity's second error of the frame, Noone followed with a bases-clearing double down the left field line and then scored on Cook's base hit to left center to give the Beavers a 6-2 advantage.

Noone blasted a two-out, two-run homer in the fourth extending the margin to 8-2 and the Green and White tacked on two more two-out runs in the seventh as Hvozdovic plated Cook with a double to right center and before coming around to score on O'Brien's single to center to make it 10-3. McClendon had retired seven in a row before junior Colt Harris (Katy, Texas) homered to center with one out in the seventh for the Tigers.

The Beavers got the run back in the top of the eighth though, as Kelly reached on a one-out error and came all the way around to score from first on Cook's two-out double to the gap in left center pushing the margin back to 11-4.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it faces Brandeis at 1 p.m. in Northborough, Mass., while Trinity begins a three-game series with Concordia (Wis.) next Friday at 6 p.m.
