Women's Hoops to Face Middlebury and Williams at the Shooting Touch Classic

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson women's basketball team travels to Williamstown, Mass., to take part in the Williams Shooting Touch Classic for the third consecutive season and fourth time since 2019 this weekend. 
•    The Beavers will face Middlebury on Friday night before meeting the host Ephs on Saturday afternoon. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Middlebury

•    Babson is 3-1 all-time against the Panthers in a series that dates back to 1992.
•    The Beavers have won three straight games against Middlebury, which includes a 79-62 victory on December 3, 2021, in Williamstown, and a 60-51 triumph on December 30 of last year in Babson Park. 

vs. Williams
•    Babson is 5-15 all-time against the Ephs in a series that dates back to 1987. 
•    The Beavers snapped a two-game skid in the series with last year's 59-56 victory over Williams on December 3, which marked the program's first win over the Ephs in Williamstown. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (3-3) has dropped two of its last three games and is coming off a 53-48 loss to No. 5/6 Rhode Island College last Sunday. 
•    Senior Kelly Walsh scored 20 points on 6-of-14 shooting, junior Camilla Silk added seven points and nine rebounds and senior Madison Odam and sophomore Claire McCarthy both added six points for the Beavers, who led 46-44 with under four minutes to play. 
•    Walsh (17.7 pts, 4.3 reb, 3.2 ast) is shooting 49.1 percent over the last three games, junior Katelyn Mollica (13.0 pts, 2.7 reb) ranks 20th in Division III in three-pointers per game (3.0) and classmate Abby Miller is contributing 8.2 points, 3.3 reb and a team-high 3.3 assists in six starts. 
•    The Green and White is averaging 70.5 points on 42.4 percent shooting and is committing just 13.7 turnovers per contest. 

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
•    Middlebury (3-3) has won two straight games and defeated Union, 68-50, on Monday night in Schenectady, N.Y. 
•    Preseason All-America Alexa Mustafaj poured in 21 of her game-high 36 points in the first half and Augusta Dixon contributed seven points, eight rebounds, four assists and three blocks for the Panthers, who outscored the Garnet Chargers 39-19 in the second half. 
•    Mustafaj (23.7 pts, 2.8 reb) has put up 20 or more points in four straight games and ranks 10th in Division III in scoring, Kale Tornwini (7.3 pts, 4.7 reb) is shooting 51.4 percent from the floor and Gabby Stuart is averaging 6.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and a team-high 2.0 steals. 
•    Middlebury is allowing just 50.8 points and has held its first six opponents to just 35.5 percent shooting. 

SCOUTING THE EPHS
•    Williams (4-2) has won back-to-back games after defeating Skidmore, 53-50, on Tuesday night at home. 
•    Cortland McBarron scored 16 points, Arianna Gerig finished with 14 points, 16 rebounds and five assists, and Kate Keenan added 12 points for the Ephs, who held the Thoroughbreds to 0-of-13 shooting from three-point range.
•    Gerig (21.7 pts, 9.0 reb, 4.5 ast, 2.5 stl) is shooting 48.1 percent from the floor, Keenan (10.3 pts, 4.0 ast) is shooting 46.7 percent from beyond the arc and McBarron (8.0 pts, 6.3 reb) has scored in double figures in back-to-back games entering the weekend. 
•    Williams is averaging 66.3 points and ranks 28th in Division III shooting 44.1 percent on the year. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Walsh has averaged 14.5 points in two games against Middlebury and 14.0 points against Williams over the last two seasons. She also is averaging 13.3 points in four career games inside Chandler Gymnasium. 
•    Senior Rachel McMenemy posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the 79-62 win over Middlebury on December 3, 2021, and Odam finished with 17 points in the 63-56 loss to Williams on December 4, 2021. 
•    Babson struggled from three-point range in last season's games against Williams and Middlebury, shooting just 17.2 percent and making just five triples over the two contests.  

OVERCOMING DEFICITS
•    The Beavers were forced to overcome halftime deficits before rallying for wins over Williams and Middlebury last season.
•    Babson trailed the Ephs by four at the half, 10 late in the third quarter and by seven with 7:56 to play in the fourth quarter before closing the game on a 14-4 run for a three-point victory. 
•    The Green and White was down 28-20 against the Panthers at the break and led by just one with 3:28 to go in the fourth before finishing the contest with an 8-0 run to win by nine. 

 GETTING TO KNOW THE NESCAC
•    The weekend's games are the second and third of five scheduled this winter against NESCAC foes. 
•    Babson suffered a 74-58 loss at Colby back on November 19 and will visit No. 11/15 Trinity on January 2 before returning home to take on No. 8/9 Tufts on January 7. 
•    The Beavers went 4-1 against the league last year and is 6-5 versus the NESCAC going back to the 2021-22 campaign. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 3-0 this season and 41-3 going back to the start of the 2021-22 campaign when leading at halftime. 
•    Babson is averaging better than 84 points per game in its three wins and just 56.3 points in its three losses to begin the year. 
•    Since the start of last year, the Beavers are 27-3 when allowing 66 points or less. 
•    The Green and White is 3-0 this season and has won 21 of its last 22 games when outrebounding its foes.
