Women's Volleyball Heads to Springfield on Saturday with NEWMAC Regular Season Title on the Line

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 9-19 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 1998.
•    The Beavers have won two in a row and seven of the last nine matches against the Pride since 2017, which includes three victories in their last four trips to Springfield. 
•    Nine of the last 13 contests between the teams have been decided in four or five sets going back to 2013. 

LAST MEETING
•    Martina Jankovic Chin '23 recorded 11 kills and Izzy Seebold M'23 contributed 24 assists, seven digs and four blocks to help Babson sweep Springfield, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, in a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal on November 5, 2022, in Cambridge, Mass. 
•    Senior Lulu McShane added seven kills, junior Lauren Gips led all players with six blocks and senior Olivia Leinenweber chipped in with eight digs for the Beavers, who hit .240 in the win. 
•    Riley Donahue had 13 kills and 10 digs and Ally Townsend led all players with 11 digs for the Pride, which finished with just one ace and 12 service errors in the loss. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (22-4, 9-1 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to three by defeating No. 18 MIT, 3-1, on Wednesday night. 
•    Gips recorded 14 kills and a career-high nine blocks, McShane totaled 13 kills and senior Erin Gray added 12 kills for the Beavers, who also got a career-high 37 digs from sophomore Roz Cabuena. 
•    Gray (3.13 k/s) ranks seventh in in the NEWMAC in kills per set, Gips is averaging 2.52 kills per set and ranks first in the league in blocks per set (1.25) and second in hitting percentage (.377), and McShane (2.26 k/s) is hitting .276 on the year. 
•    First-year Zoe Ackerman is handing out 7.16 assists per set, Cabuena ranks second in the conference in digs per set (5.14) and junior Tatum Stelter ranks fourth in the league in aces (56) in addition to contributing 2.66 digs per set. 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (23-3, 10-0 NEWMAC) has won three straight matches after cruising past Salve Regina 25-20, 25-16, 25-21 on Tuesday night. 
•    Maeve Voltz finished with nine kills, Emily Keaveney added seven kills and Tori Colosimo dished out 25 assists to go along with five digs for the Pride, which improved to 7-0 on the year at home.
•    Donahue is hitting .256 and leads the league in kills per set (4.02), Natalie Billet is contributing 2.63 kills and 2.33 digs per set, and Voltz (2.19 k/s, 1.19 b/s) ranks first in the conference with 101 total blocks. 
•    Colosimo is handing out 8.31 assists per set and is third in the NEWMAC with 58 service aces, while Townsend is averaging 4.20 digs per set and is second in the league with 61 aces this fall. 

WHAT'S AT STAKE
•    The winner of Saturday's match will be the top seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will be in line to host both the semifinals and final next weekend. 
•    Babson is looking to earn a share of its fourth regular season conference title in four seasons, while Springfield has already secured a share of its first regular season crown since 2018.
•    The loser of Saturday's match is guaranteed to be the second seed and both squads will host quarterfinal matches on Tuesday night.

SWINGING AWAY
•    Gray has averaged 3.39 kills per set over her last six matches and has totaled 35 kills while hitting .280 in victories over Smith, Assumption and MIT. 
•    McShane has seven or more kills in nine of Babson's last 10 matches and is hitting .398 over her last six outings. 
•    Over her last four appearances, all of which have been wins, first-year Natalie Molendyk is averaging 2.07 kills per set and is hitting at a .241 clip during this stretch. 

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
•    Stelter's 56 service aces this fall are tied for 14th in single-season program history and are the most since Abby Beecher '19 finished with 55 in 2018. 
•    She also ranks seventh on Babson's career list with 149 service aces.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 7-3 on the road and 13-4 in all matches away from home on the year.
•    Babson is 18-0 this fall when it opponents finish the match with a hitting percentage of .150 or lower.
•    The Green and White is 19-1 on the season when it wins the first set. 
•    The Beavers are 18-2 on the year when recording more blocks than their foes.
