Kramer’s Hat Trick Lifts Men's Ice Hockey Past UMass Boston, 6-1

Box Score BOSTON, Mass.—Senior Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, Mass.) recorded his second career hat trick and 13 players recorded at least one point as Babson College rolled to a 6-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey match-up Saturday afternoon inside the Edward T. Barry Rink.

The Beavers posted their fourth consecutive victory to improve to 4-3-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the NEHC while the Beacons had a two-game winning streak snapped and slid to 3-4-1 overall and 3-3-0 in league play.

Sophomore Cam Joslin (Cohasset, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist for the Beavers while junior Matt Cormier (Waltham, Mass.) and sophomore Egan Schmitt (Schuylerville, N.Y.) scored once each and sophomore Nolan Woudenberg (Collegeville, Pa.) collected a pair of assists in the win. Seniors Grey Owens (Greenwich, Conn.) and Colby Bailey (Southborough, Mass.), junior Wyatt George (Mount Lebanon, Pa.), sophomores Ryan Murphy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.), Will Holland (Charlotte, N.C.), Sam Sibold (South Hero, Vt.) and Charlie Andriole (Branford, Conn.) and first-year CJ Beals (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallied one helper apiece and sophomore Nate Mueller (Rogers, Minn.) made 38 saves in goal to record his fourth consecutive victory.

Sophomore Jude Kurtas (Hillsborough, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the Beacons with assists from first-years Jacob Kaminski (Greenville, Mich.) and Jack Ford (Middletown, Del.). Graduate student Sam Best (Woburn, Mass.) made 23 saves before giving way to first-year Antonio Tarantino (Phoenix, Ariz.), who finished with nine saves in the final 17 minutes.

The hosts got on the board first eight minutes into the first period when Kurtas snapped a one-timer from the top of the right circle past Mueller.

The Beavers evened the score a little more than three minutes later with a power play goal as Schmitt tipped a shot by Holland from the right point that was stopped by Best but Schmitt buried the rebound. Babson gained the lead with 1:12 remaining in the period with a 3-on-1 rush as Cormier took a feed from Joslin in the slot and converted a wrister inside the right post.

The Green and White started to pull away with a pair of second period goals by Kramer. He potted his first one just 21 seconds into the frame from the slot on a pass by Murphy from behind the net, and made it 4-1 at 7:33 when he tipped in a shot from the point by Beals.

Babson sealed the victory with a pair of third-period strikes. Kramer finished off his natural hat trick at 2:49 when he was sent in alone with a pass along the left boards by Woudenberg and ripped a shot inside the far post, glove side, and Joslin capped the scoring at 10:28 from the lower left circle inside the near post after a cross-ice pass from Sibold.

UMass Boston finished with a 39-28 advantage in shots on goal. The Beavers went 2-for-5 on the power play and killed off all three Beacon opportunities with the man advantage.

Babson returns home to start a string of five straight home games on Tuesday with a non-conference encounter against Tufts at 1 p.m. UMB visits Trinity next Saturday for a 3 p.m. face-off.
