Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) earned victories in both singles and doubles to lead Babson College to a 9-0 victory over Emerson College in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMC) women's tennis opener Thursday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Complex.
With the victory, the Beavers start their dual match season at 1-0 both overall and in conference play while Emerson drops to 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers cruised to a 3-0 lead with victories in all three doubles flights. Seniors

Shanaya Naik (Mumbai, India) led off with an 8-0 sweep of Amaya Briones and Evlin Walsh at number three, and senior
Adèle Fernández (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and junior
Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon) were right behind with an 8-1 verdict over Susie-Jane Wilson and Chase Stinson at number two. Sophomore

Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 decision over Sammi Perry and Gabrielle McGovern at number one.

Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) and first-year
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) started the singles onslaught at the bottom of the line-up, Starcher defeating Walsh at number six and Kamal blanking Stinson at number five by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sophomores
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) and
Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas) also posted 6-0, 6-0 victories over McGovern and Briones at numbers three and four, and Soffer and Rizk completed the team sweep with easy wins over Wilson and Perry by scores of 6-0, 6-0, and 6-1, 6-2, respectively.
The Beavers will open the spring portion of the season with a trip to California, beginning with a match against Caltech in Pasadena on March 11, 2024.
