ROME, Ga.—Babson College sophomore
Matia Cristiani (Miami, Fla.) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division III singles bracket and paired up with junior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) to move into the quarterfinals of the doubles on Thursday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Cup at the Rome Tennis Center.
The fourth-seeded Cristiani defeated senior Audrey Yoon (Knoxville, Tenn.) of Claremont-Midd-Scripps Colleges, 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16. Yoon was the ITA West Region Runner-up. Cristiani will face senior Danna Taylor (Orlando, Fla.) of Carnegie-Mellon University in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 p.m.
The second seed in the doubles bracket, Cristiani and Soffer recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory over senior Sofia Walker (St. Paul, Minn.) and graduate student Kelsey Dorr (Princeton, Minn.) of St. Catherine University, who were the ITA Midwest Regional doubles champions. The Babson due advance to the quarterfinals on Friday at 7 p.m. against Yoon and junior Alisha Chulani (Los Altos, Calif.) of Claremont-Midd-Scripps.
Cristiani advanced the ITA Cup after becoming the second Babson woman to capture the ITA New England singles crown back on September 24, following Soffer, who achieved the title last year. Cristiani and Soffer are the first Babson doubles team to win the ITA New England title and advance to the ITA Cup.
With her doubles victory, Soffer is now one win shy of the Babson combined singles and doubles victories record of 107 set by Rebecca Stone '12.
