Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Senior Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) scored a game-high 25 points but Springfield College finished with four players in double figures and defeated No. 9 D3hoops.com/No. 10 WBCA, 71-61, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Blake Arena.
Babson, which has dropped two of its last three games, is now 16-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play while Springfield improves to 13-6 overall and 3-1 in the NEWMAC.
Bauman finished 8-of-15 from the floor and added six rebounds, five assists and two steals for the Beavers. Senior Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) added 12 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks in the loss.
Senior Rachel Vinton (Rutland, Vt.) scored 18 points and dished out a game-high six assists, while classmate Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) contributed 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks to pace the Pride. Sophomore Angela Czeremcha (West Springfield, Mass.) posted her second consecutive double-double with 12 points and 11 boards and Jaelen Daubon (Hyde Park, N.Y.) contributed 11 points in the win.
The Green and White scored on three straight possessions to jump out to a 7-2 lead and got a layup from sophomore Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) to carry a 16-14 advantage into the second quarter. Czeremcha and first-year Amanda Leary (Westbury, N.Y.) combined for nine of Springfield's first 11 points to begin the stanza and Daubon converted a three-point play to give the hosts a 28-24 advantage with 2:46 to go until halftime.
Hoops by Daubon and Vinson pushed the margin to 32-26 at the break and the Pride answered a bucket by Bauman with six straight points to stretch its lead to 39-30 midway through the third. Babson answered with a 6-0 run that included a layup by junior Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.), a corner jumper by first-year Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) and two free throws by Bauman to pull within 41-38 at the 2:20 mark, but Springfield scored on its final four possessions of the third and got baskets from Vinson and Hourihan to make it 52-40 with 9:11 to go in the fourth.
The Pride led by as many as 13 in the final quarter and answered with a bucket both times Bauman cut the lead to single digits with under four minutes play. The Green and White got as close as 62-55 on a three-pointer by sophomore Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass. with 1:15 remaining but Daubon converted a layup on the other end to put the game away.
The Beavers shot just 37.3 percent, which includes a 2-of-16 effort from three-point range, and finished with a 39-38 edge on the glass. Springfield shot 44.3 percent and outscored the Green and White 32-24 in the paint.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday as Babson hosts Emerson at 6 p.m. while Springfield travels to Clark at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES
 • The Beavers are now 34-14 all-time against Springfield and Saturday's loss snapped their three-game winning streak against the Pride.
 • Babson has allowed at least 65 points in all three of its losses this winter.
 • Bauman passed Ingrid Miller '03 and now ranks 15th in school history with 1,059 points. She also has 369 career assists and is just seven shy of the all-time program record.
 • The Beavers went 15-of-15 at the free throw line on Saturday marking the second time this season they have shot 100 percent while attempting at least 15 free throws.
