No. 9/10 Women's Hoops Overpowers Mount Holyoke, 103-25

Box Score

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass.— First-year Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) registered her first career double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds, sophomore Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) added 13 points and No. 9/10 Babson College got 73 points off the bench on the way to a 103-25 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action Wednesday evening inside Howard Gymnasium.

With the win, Babson won for the ninth time in its last 10 outings to improve to 16-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Mount Holyoke lost its fourth in a row and fell to 2-17 overall and 0-4 in league play.

Perreault converted 9-of-17 field goal attempts and grabbed 11 of her rebounds off the offensive glass, while Flynn made 4-of-7 shots and grabbed five boards and a team-high three steals for the Beavers. Senior Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) led the starters with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting, sophomores Camille Minor (Kingston, Mass.) and Meghan Goode (Chelmsford, Mass.) added nine points apiece off the bench, and first-year Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) chipped in with eight points in the victory.

Sophomore Marley Berano (Lady Lake, Fla.) led the home team with 14 points, 12 coming on four three-point baskets. Junior Teal Howle (Florence, S.C.) scored five points and first-year Taryn White (Alexandria, Va.) hauled in a team-high 10 rebounds.

Babson wasted no time in taking control, scoring the first 22 points of the game before Berano hit a three-pointer to put the Lyons on the board. Smith and junior Rachel McMenemy (Northborough, Mass.) combined for the first 10 points, sophomore Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) followed with a pair of buckets, Smith made a pair of layups and Goode and senior Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) made one hoop each in the opening run.

First-year Amelia Knaysi (Grand Junction, Colo.) hit a layup for the Lyons to start the second quarter and Berano drained a pair of shots from beyond the arc as the hosts outscored the Beavers  8-6 in the first four minutes of the second frame. The tide quickly turned, though, as Babson outscored Mount Holyoke 23-0 the rest of the way to take a 53-11 lead into the locker room.

Sophomore Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) hit three straight layups to spark the second-quarter surge, Minor, first-year Gianna Langone (Ellington, Conn.), Perreault and Carlo all got into the scoring act, and Perreault capped off the rally with three unanswered buckets in the final 30 seconds before the buzzer.

It was more of the same in the second half as Babson outscored the hosts 24-9 in the third quarter and 24-5 in the final frame. As many as 13 Beavers got into the scoring column and 11 scored at least four points.

Babson shot 46.6 percent from the field and held Mount Holyoke to 16.9 percent shooting. The Beavers, who had a 65-35 advantage on the glass, made 14-of-22 free throws while Mount Holyoke did not attempt a shot from the line.

Both teams return to NEWMAC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson visits Springfield and Mount Holyoke hosts No. 5/5 Smith.
