Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Indi DelRocco (Branford, Conn.) scored seven points during a closing 16-6 run that helped No. 17 D3hoops.com/No. 20 WBCA Trinity College rally to defeat No. 11/11 Babson College, 65-61, in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday night inside Staake Gymnasium.
Babson, which had its eight-game winning streak snapped, is now 15-2 on the year, while Trinity improves to 17-1 with its 14th consecutive victory.
Senior Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) finished with 17 points, five assists and three steals, sophomore Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range and senior Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) added 14 points and four blocked shots to lead the Beavers. Junior Kelly Walsh (Goffstown, N.H.) led all players with six steals, while classmate Rachel McMenemy (Northborough, Mass.) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior Emma Wax (Pine Brook, N.J.) knocked down five three-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points and classmate Reilly Campbell (Wallingford, Conn.) contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds to record her 11th double-double of the season. DelRocco finished with 10 points, all in the second half for the Bantams.
The Green and White got six early points from Smith and three-pointers from Mollica, Bauman and Walsh to build a 19-7 advantage with 1:53 to go in the opening quarter. Another triple by Bauman and a layup by McMenemy kept the Beavers in front 27-17 midway through the second before Wax and Campbell combined for seven points as Trinity rattled off a 9-0 run to pull within 27-26 on a jumper by senior Frankie Silva (Auburndale, Mass.) with 2:00 to go in the stanza.
Junior Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) converted a three-point play as Babson answered with seven straight points to push the margin back to 34-26 at the half. The Bantams were still down eight three minutes into the third before rattling off a 10-0 spurt to take its first lead of the game at 39-37 on a jumper by Wax with 4:14 left in the frame.
The lead changed hands five times over the next three minutes and the Green and White got a hoop in the paint by Bauman and a three-pointer by Mollica to jump back in front 50-47 just over a minute into the fourth. Mollica canned another triple following a steal to make it 55-49 with 6:12 remaining before Trinity responded with 10 straight points, which included three-point plays by DelRocco and Wax, to take a 59-55 edge with 2:49 to play.
Bauman went 4-of-4 at the charity stripe to get within 61-59 with 40 seconds remaining but DelRocco buried a pair of free throws late in the shot clock on the ensuing possession to help the Bantams put the game away.
The Beavers finished 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc but shot just 39.2 percent overall. They also turned 18 Trinity turnovers into 17 points.
The Bantams shot 41.2 percent on the night and outrebounded the Green and White 39-23.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Mount Holyoke at 7 p.m. while Trinity hosts Hamilton on Friday at 7 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 9-8 all-time against Trinity although Monday's contest was just the second between the teams since 2009.
• Bauman now has 358 career assists and passed Michele Cote '94 for second place on the program's all-time list on Monday night.
• Monday's loss marked just the second time over the last 17 games that Babson has lost when making at least six three-pointers.
• The setback to the Bantams also snapped the Beavers' 32-game winning streak, which dated back to January 2020, when forcing 18 or more turnovers.
