Box Score WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior Laura Zuloaga (Naples, Fla.) and junior Lauren Griffin (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) finished with five kills apiece and 19th-ranked Babson College hit .303 as a team in a three-set (25-7, 25-18, 25-17) victory over WPI in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's volleyball action on Tuesday night inside Harrington Auditorium.
With its 12th straight win, Babson improves to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in league play. WPI has dropped five of it last six matches and slips to 6-6 overall and 0-5 in the NEWMAC.
Senior Martina Jankovic Chin (Zapresic, Croatia) and junior Lulu McShane (Glencoe, Ill.) both had four kills and fellow junior Lauren Gips (Orlando, Fla.) added three kills and a match-high four blocks for the Beavers. Classmate Erin Gray (Oakland, Calif.) also recorded three kills and first-year Roz Cabuena (Kailua, Hawaii) led all players with 13 digs in the win.
Junior Olivia Deckers (Marlboro, Mass.) and senior Maddie Sanborn (Londonderry, N.H.) both finished with five kills, while classmate Catherine Reynolds (Concord, N.H.) dished out a match-high 15 assists and added 10 digs to pace the Engineers.
The Green and White raced out to a 6-2 lead and was up 12-5 when graduate student Izzy Seebold (Concord, N.C.) sparked a seven-point run with a trio of service aces. McShane and Gips added late kills for the Beavers, who hit .474 as a team and took advantage of nine errors by the hosts in game one.
Babson never trailed in the second and took its biggest advantage at 14-5 after Griffin and Zuloaga combined for four kills in the span of five points. The Engineers battled back to within three but Gips and junior Caroline Applewhite (Boca Raton, Fla.) combined for a block and the Beavers took advantage of three late WPI errors to close out the frame.
The Green and White wrapped up the sweep in the third, hitting .312 and recording 12 kills. The Beavers used a five-point run to take an 11-6 lead and got two kills apiece from Jankovic Chin and Griffin as part of a 9-4 closing run after WPI had pulled within two at 16-14.
Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Babson faces Clark and Gordon beginning at 11 a.m., while the Engineers take on Springfield at 1 p.m.
