Lapham singled and scored on a base hit by Burychka, Yellen followed with a third straight knock and scored on another single by Cook two batters later to make it 2-0. Sophomore Francis Kiely (Falmouth, Mass.) raced home on a two-out error and Savage followed with another RBI single to plate Cook for a 4-0 advantage.
Burychka drove in Lapham following a leadoff double in the second and then smoked a two-out triple to the gap in left center to bring home Savage before scoring on a wild pitch to extend the margin to 7-0 in the sixth. Savage drove in first-year Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, N.J.) as part of a two-run seventh inning and Yellen added to the lead in the eighth with an RBI single down the right field line to score Burychka.
Noone retired the first 13 batters of the game, which included six strikeouts, before walking McGrath and allowing a one-out bloop single to Baum in the top of the fifth. He quickly retired the final two hitters of the frame and then got a 6-4-3 double play with runners on first and second to get out of trouble in the sixth.
