Wiacek Takes Home Three All-America Awards as Beavers Place Third in Combined Standings
LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—The Babson College men's alpine ski team took fourth place in the slalom and matched the best finish in program history by placing third in the combined standings at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Friday afternoon at Whiteface Mountain.
The Beavers finished a little more than nine seconds behind Sierra Nevada, which finished first in both the slalom and the GS to captured its sixth national title since 2011. Rocky Mountain finished second in both the slalom and the combined, while Northern Michigan took third in the slalom and came in one spot behind Babson in the combined standings.
Sophomore Ryan Beardsley (Warren, Vt.) was the team's top finisher in the slalom putting together a two-run time of 1:32.66 to come in 12th. Senior Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) finished less than a second behind him with a time of 1:33.45 that was good for 14th position, while junior Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) placed 20th with a time of 1:34.73.
Wiacek, who earned All-America honors in both the GS and slalom, picked up his third award of the week by coming in seventh in the combined standings. Beardsley, who claimed All-America laurels in the slalom, was 56th in the combined, while junior Zach Roman (Mashpee, Mass.) placed 58th thanks in large part to his seventh-place showing in the giant slalom on Wednesday.
Beney and sophomore Kyle Wolff (Stratham, N.H.), who finished 12th to earn All-America accolades in the GS, placed 61st and 63rd, respectively, in the combined standings.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
• Babson's third-place finish in the combined matches the 2013 team for the best result in school history.
• The Beavers have recorded 10 straight top-10 finishes at nationals and their third-place showing marks the first time they've ended in the top five since 2018.
• Wiacek, who ends his career with four All-America awards, is just the sixth Babson skier to earn All-America honors in the slalom and GS in the same season.
