WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson men's and women's alpine ski teams travel to the foot of the Adirondack Mountains for the first of two straight weekends of competition at West Mountain on Friday and Saturday.
• The Beavers and their MacConnell Division rivals will compete in their final two giant slalom races of the season.
LAST TIME AT WEST MOUNTAIN
• Senior Victor Wiacek recorded a pair of top-10 finishes to help the Babson men place second in the slalom and third in the giant slalom, while junior Lauren Abdow was one of three females to finish among the top 10 in both races as the Babson women won the GS and came in third in the slalom on February 8-9, 2020.
• Abdow, Sarah Mangiacotti '21 and Elizabeth Baer '20 all posted top-five finishes and senior Julia Martin was 11th to help the Beavers secure a first-place team finish in the GS.
• Wiacek came in sixth in the slalom and ninth in the GS, while senior Zach Roman and junior Jack Beney both contributed a pair of top-11 results for the Babson men.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers finished second in the slalom at Pat's Peak and the giant slalom at Mount Sunapee last weekend.
• Abdow led the team with a third-place finish in the slalom and then recorded her first collegiate victory in the GS.
• Sophomore Caroline Johnson came in fifth in the slalom, classmate Caroline Haaijer was fifth in the GS and first-year Amalie Alkier placed 10th in the slalom for the Green and White.
• Abdow (6th) and Haaijer (8th) are both among the top 10 in the MacConnell Division standings, while Alkier and Martin rank 12th and 14th, respectively.
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers came in second in slalom on Saturday and followed it up with a first-place result in the giant slalom at Mount Sunapee last Sunday.
• Sophomore Lucas Wiacek placed second in the GS and fifth in the slalom, classmate Ryan Beardsley finished fourth in both races, and fellow sophomore Kyle Wolff added a pair of top-10 results for Babson.
• Beardsley (4th), Wolff (7th), Lucas Wiacek (8th) and first-year Zach Carpenter (9th) give the Green and White four of the top 10 skiers in the MacConnell Division entering this weekend's races.
• Beney, who was eighth in the slalom at Pat's Peak, ranks 11th in the league and junior Zach Roman is currently 17th in the overall standings after finishing fifth in the GS last weekend.
STANDING ATOP THE PODIUM
• Sunday's victory in the giant slalom at Mount Sunapee was the first for the Babson men in MacConnell Division competition since the final race of the 2019 regular season at Proctor Ski Area.
CONSISTENT SUCCESS
• The Babson women own six consecutive runner-up finishes to start the 2021 regular season and boast 15 top-three finishes in 16 league races going back to the start of 2020.
• The Beaver men own 17 straight top-three results and have finished worse than third just twice going back to the start of the 2019 campaign.
LOOKING AHEAD
• Babson returns to West Mountain for a pair of slalom races to close out the MacConnell Division regular season schedule on February 12-13.
